[Wanted] Upper Tailgate for 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 V8

The dreaded corrosion is attacking trailing edge of my upper tailgate (such a pity that LR has not stopped such poor manufacture including the crap brake lines)
I really need a new bare upper tailgate if anybody has one for sale. I have been quoted £230 plus VAT to repair my existing tailgate but cannot help thinking the problem is not really cured just avoided for a few months/years.
Any suggestions ?

If the body shop is warranting that work then £230 is a pretty good price.

My typo sorry. Price quoted is £330 plus VAT.

Yes we are, I’m on the south coast. Even your revised price isn’t bad, especially if any replacement upper needed a full paint.

Thanks you are probably right. Still hurts to pay nearly £400 to repair and paint that metal strip beneath the glass.

In my experience no bodyshop will give you a guarantee that rust won't bubble through from the inside again, the rust has had to pass through a folded and sealed seam at the bottom of the tailgate, there is no way to remove this without cutting it open and replacing the metal, IMHO once you can see evidence of rusting then it is too late, you can repair what you can see and put as much anti rust inside it as you can but it won't kill all the rust or hold it back for long...

Just FYI a new upper tailgate from JLR is around £1,100, they list two, <2007>2007 but I believe they all fit all years... Pete

Sage advice, I had a cosmetic job done on mine for a couple of hundred quid (that included blowing in some scratched panels) last Oct, slight bubbling is coming back already. I suppose it entirely depends on what you want out of your car and how much money you want to spend on it. Mine was / is almost at the recycling end of the value curve so keeping it going and looking semi presentable is the priority. But then again, it is a bit of a hobby car and not strictly needed for transport.

Mine was replaced by the supplying MD when it started bubbling at only 3 years old.
The replacement is now 6 years old and still OK, but I did get as much Dinitrol as possible in it the day I got it back.
They had the car for 4 days for the job, but I suppose it was stood in the body shop a lot of the time waiting for paint to dry.
etc., but I bet it is quite a costly job in labour costs alone.
They didn’t get a brilliant paint colour match and to this day you can easily see it is darker, especially when in bright sunlight., but better than being rusty.
