Had many “happy” years Of ownership of an L322, after a break I’ve decided I need another Land Rover..

Just after opinions on the below vehicle:

I have noted that the advert states full Land Rover service history, whereas in fact the last two services are not Land Rover.. Not sure how much that puts me off, more the advert is misleading..

I’m not too worried about Ulez, I‘ll pay the charge if I decide to drive or I have another car I can take into London that’s compliant.

I was more looking for advise on the price, things to check etc..

theres a buyers guide in the wiki that should help....i would also look at LR used approved as you get a years warranty and prices are competitive.. ... - .- -.

Thanks Stan, I’ve actually been a member for 10+ years I just forgot my login..

I would love to go Approved used route, but they all appear to be £32K+ The issue is the wife is not massively into cars.. And I already bought a “weekend” car last year so I have negotiated (ha!) approx £25K give or take, it’s not worth the arguments for more!

I had intended on getting a Warranty Direct warranty after purchase?

@Mark, good god man you’re putting me off after convincing myself it would be better this time around!

i see what you mean , last time i looked they had loads below £30k...

i would certainly get a good comprehensive warranty...we do have a section for warranty talk so might be worth browsing that.. ... - .- -.

I have just bought a MY17 4.4 and after talking to dealers and reading a fair bit before buying was definitely swerved to paying the extra for Euro6.London first but if rolls out across other Cities,Euro 5 will have a smaller market to sell on in the future.

I paid £39K 30k miles is base Vogue,end of lease .couple of months left on Land Rover warranty,I changed the wheels from 22 to 20 but the wheels were in a poor state any way,think the previous owner had problem with there peripheral vision or parked by hearing,when the alloys were grinding against the kerb was time to brake.

Coming back to this..

After doing countless hours reading across all the RR forums, mostly about the crankshaft.. It would appear I have two options, buy private and get the top Warranty Direct policy, or get approved used but get it in writing that the crank is covered.

The issue with private of course is getting it inspected, really in the real (COVID) world, your only choice is AA and RAC, I can’t go look at a car and then ask them to take it half way across the country to a specialist..

Ahhhh nothing is simple!

although crank failure does happen it seems to be a rarity ..i also get the indication that its on the disco version of the engine ..
maybe the disco engine has different ancillarys??? ... - .- -.

I think you're going to struggle to get any LR dealer to put in writing that the crank is covered under the JLR/Car Care plan warranty.

I don't know how much the WD warranty is, but if you want peace of mind, buy one from LR, get all their Approved Used Checks and finance options and add the WD warranty after purchase. On a D4 at LR an engine and labour used to be around £18k.

If and it does seem to be a big if.....the crank does go, when you get it recovered, either to LR or an Indy, submit your claim to WD not LR.

Yes and at least two people on the Range Rover sport forum got it in writing as well, the key, of course is getting it in writing BEFORE buying it, plan would be, pay deposit, then balance after the written/email confirmation crank is covered by warranty.

There is no way in hell I would pay top end For an Approved used Car and then paying for a Warranty Direct policy on top of that price.

Lastly, for whatever reason crankshaft failure does seem to be almost exclusively to the RR sport & Discos? No one knows why, a bit like the turbos on the L322 3.6 TDV8, far more went on the sport..

I know a couple of people tried on the D4 forum and were told no, so it looks like it depends on the dealer.

My personal experience of dealer undertakings is they're not worth the media they're written on and don't stand up in court, been there got the T-Shirt and essentially a Salesman will tell you anything to get you to sign.
