Dreaded light - help please. - update/breakdown.

Wife calls me whilst out in the car.
Restricted performance light comes on and red triangle showing. Loss of power etc.
I tell her pull over and restart. She’s done that and now driving normal but still got amber engine symbol on.
Is this a usual gremlin, dpf or something similar?
Should I panic or what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Craig

So on her way home at 1am the car came to a halt on an unlit country road.
Mrs called rac but they couldn’t get there in good time.
Police arrived and insisted car was moved as it was dangerous - it really was on a dodgy bend in the dark. Emergency tow truck was called as rac weren’t happening. 320 quid later.

Towed it to the outside of our local land-rover indie.

RAC came out this morning. Plugged in and said oil sensor showing fault and fuel pressure.
I called dealership who we bought from and they said take into the garage and send the bill. They then said if the garage can’t do it. Call us and we will recovery and take to local garage near to us and fix for free.

Tbh I’m well impressed at them. They are being very honourable and haven’t doubted me at all.
When all this gets sorted I will certainly give a big mention and good review as their customer service is first class so far.
Not so impressed with rac though 🤔

Wave arms in air. Run around. Panic.

Then wait for someone else to post a sensible answer....

Difficult to tell without codes, but if it’s now up and running normalish then it’s probably nothing too serious. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

DPF gives a message

I’d complete a journey with an amber light - but be aware that it could decide to go into limp mode at any time, so a slow run home.

Any warranty with the car ?

You need to a code reader to start figuring it out - could be any number of things

No warranty, only bought 2 weeks ago but covered 800 miles since purchase and no problems at all.
Cars only done 16k too and seems well loved.

FWIW as soon as she stopped and restarted it was fine but now I’m paranoid.
It’s due in for 165 point check on Tuesday and the aim was to then get a warranty put on at LR. But now I’m thinking they might take my trousers down 😳

Just A couple of further thoughts.

First one: would it be worthwhile calling the Rac, whilst the car is out on the road to get it checked. My reasoning is if it’s a simple reset and no problem then I can get the fault cleared when they plug in diagnostics in advance if having the pre warranty check?

Second one: looking ahead and knowing what these cars are like when it comes to fault codes and sensors etc.
How do I go about getting a diagnostic tool, what would in need and is it an easy thing for a non mechanic to use. Worth the money etc. ?

A basic code reader is dead easy, plugs into the OBD port under the dash and you follow the instructions. They can be picked up for cheap.

A car specific IID tool type is much more comprehensive but cost more, and if you are getting a warranty then possibly not needed yet.

Yes definitely worth a call to the RAC and see if they can diagnose/clear the fault. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Any links to where I can get one of these gizmos. Also. Would it be compatible with my other 2007 tdv8 rr sport?

I’ll see what happens with the error code when the missus gets home (assuming she makes it back) then perhaps call Rac even if it’s just to clear the code.

I will check the hoses when the car comes back.
I did have a similar problem on my TDV8 RR sport but that was old and high miles, I taped it up and blasted up the M11 and it cleared the problem straight away, so I knew from that it was the cause, this one just seems like a new car, low miles and the engine bay us spotless, I know looks can be deceiving though, so def will look.

Would EGR valve flag up this warning, I know, again on my TDV8 RR, it says "engine system fault" when the EGR valve is sticking, Ive had one replaced one and it cleared the problem and been Ok since.

Plenty of them on Amazon, eBay etc which will read and clear a code. Just google OBD 2 code reader. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
