Does anyone know of what can be used to plug the battery in while using SDD as it insists the battery is over 12.5V for some functions and mine often is just under while the engine is off. Some functions it will run with the engine on so those are fine but others engine has to be off.

For the equivalent use case I thought the GAP folk recommend the CTEK MXS-10 charger for that, which has a "supply" mode to give a nice clean power feed.

I bought an MXS-10 charger for use during lockdown to ensure the battery stays topped up, and whilst I haven't yet used it in "supply" mode when playing with the IID tool (thankfully IID only needed 1 very brief outing in the past 4 months!), I think various others on here have used it like that successfully.

or another battery on jumps ?
might be ok for duration you need?

I tried a ctek mcs-7 which also has a supply mode but that didnt seem to work. Perhaps i need to leave the battery plugged in for longer before supply mode is effective?

Unfortunately i dont have a spare battery. I do have a portable booster but I've read that shouldnt be left connected other than during jump starting

I haven't checked the draw with all systems running but no engine started, but I suspect it's quite possibly more than 7 amps, so maybe the MXS-7 can't quite cope with the load, and voltage does still drop?

Afraid I'm currently in Poole, otherwise I'd offer the MXS-10 for a try if I was in London!

I've never had a portable jump pack, but isn't it effectively just a small battery pack with some jump leads and charging circuitry built in? If so, maybe it's optimised for jump starting with high cranking amps and low capacity, but you would have thought it should be able to act as a second battery for a short period without the engine running.

Yes, mxs10 in supply mode for a clean supply
If you have towing electrics (13 or twin 7) then plug in via a towing adaptor from the forum shop. So easy

Excellent thanks DrRob - I had hoped the MXS7 had enough output but I guess not so I have an MXS10 on the way and will return the 7. I'm fairly sure I have towing electrics but need to investigate which type as I've never looked at it properly.

Until I get an adapter I assume I can just attach to battery +ve and body ground? I read that attaching to battery -ve is no good as the car ECU won't realise there is an external supply attached.

Thanks, that looks interesting. Do you use that as a battery support or more for charging? I’d need an AGM version though.
