020 Battery Doesn’t Fit in my MY10

Having spent a lot of time trawling through the forum looking for confirmation that an 020 battery would fit in my car, I couldn’t find absolute proof. A look on the Tayna website showed a few comments from owners who had fitted the Varta 020 in a Range Rover (one starting 3.6TDV8) so I took the plunge.

Starting the job in brilliant sunshine it became obvious it would be a squeeze but I was determined.
Old knackered 019 Bosch out and then the fun began.

Removing part after part it became obvious that the windscreen scuttle also had to come off. Then the thunderstorm arrived so bonnet back down as it resembled a sail in the upright service position, and I ran inside for half an hour.

Once the sun came back I continued. New battery lifted up and over for the twentieth time and it went in!
Battery securing clamps tightened and all was looking good until I tried to connect the positive clamp.
Due to all of the technical gubbins on the positive lead, which had previously slated nicely down the side of the 019 battery, I realised it wasn’t going to happen without some serious metallic modification.

So new battery out, old one back in and on charge and the car reassemble. Well, almost. During the stormy weather two scuttle clips had disappeared - does anyone know the part numbers??

What’s the point of this thread you may ask?
It’s to give others the heads up that the 020 battery will not fit in a MY10 3.6 TDV8. That’s all.

Thankfully Tayna are delivering an 019 today and exchanging for the cost of the carriage (about £7) so all should be good soon.

2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

With our 08 3.6 RR I had to place some blocks of wood beneath the battery to raise it enough so the positive terminal would have enough room. I then used two narrow ratchet straps to hold it all in place. An utter ballache getting it in and out but works well until workshops repeatedly start and stop the car, killing the battery. Fortunately I have claimed on the ECP five year warranty a few times to have a battery that hasn’t been flattened ever.
As an aside, one issue we did discover was the surrounding bodywork does sit under the positive terminal and hitting a bump on, say, entering a car park can break the connection by just enough. So car Runs perfectly. Shutdown for five minutes and on return the car is totally dead. Main dealer repeatedly could not find a fault but an indy spent twenty minutes and diagnosed as the positive terminal not being properly seated. The positive terminal is slightly conical shaped so ensure the clamp is all the way down and tighten appropriately.

That's great info re the battery - I wonder if the 5.0 has the same issue as there's a lot of electronics and wiring in the battery compartment.

I've just been looking up scuttle clips and they are:

EYC101450 - underside part
cyc000010 - top black clip

Bushy - I saw your thread about the 4.4 not being able to accommodate one but was hopeful that mine, being the smaller engine, would be ok.

I think you have to cut and file chunks of the battery from what I’ve read on here.

I’ll fit an 019 to my 4.4 TDV8 when I get one. Can the idea of the 020.

Yeah.... then somebody else tried and said no way..... so still didn’t get a definitive answer.

If you use a garage, I can’t see them mucking about to try and get a different part to fit.

I need a battery, but not using the car much currently, and the CTEK is plugged in.....

There was another post a few weeks ago about fitting an 020 to a 3.6 TDV8.....
You can certainly fit an 020 to a 2008, There is no way on this earth you’ll fit an 020 to a 2010 without some surgery to the battery. 2010 TDV8 3.6 Galway Green
