Yes, the law changed (in 2015, the Loi Hamon or Loi Consommation) but it’s not quite as simple as that! You can still only cancel/change insurers in the first year during the 14-day cooling-off period or on a change in circumstances, sale of car, etc.. See the links above and https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F2659 for example.

20 years ownership of Solihull products, ALL GONE NOW, sniff!
Current motor: Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto, 1.4 petrol. Oh so reliable! 5 years now and no problems. Oh, all right then, a leaking shocker replaced under guarantee.

That is an improvement then, Steve. Although one year isn't such a great advance.

I'm with Pacifica (CA) and the excess is nothing like that. Will look at the policy to see the actual figure. As you say, breakdown and accident cover is included

One advantage I had was, when the last FF was written off, my policy was assessor's valuation plus 50% which made replacing it much easier.

Our excesses are nothing like SFM Steve’s figures either!
On our 2 policies, the excesses are:
- mostly 0€ (185€ or 380€ for Fire & Theft, 'Natural Disasters', etc) for our Suzuki S-Cross, insured with Amaguiz, part of the Groupama Group
- 0€ (380€ for ‘Natural Disasters & Acts of God’) for our Renault Twingo, with Aviva (ex Eurofil)

Obviously premiums - and, presumably, excesses - will vary according to a whole host of factors but, just as an indication, we pay an annual premium of 638€ for a fully-comp policy with most of the bangs and whistles (full NCB) for the Suzuki and 432€ for the Twingo, also fully-comp, full NCB, most of the extras.

It pays to shop around!

Just out of interest what are the best premiums/guarantees you FFRR owners are paying for Tous Risques all bells and whistles, replacement car etc.

My last premium was for +-€900 for the FFRR with maximum no claims and about €700 excess through my bank.

For the OP I do have an old Toyota 24 valve that I have insured on the absolute minimum costs +-€125/year even though I have not moved it for 3 years and it is on my private land it is a legal requirement to have insurance on a vehicle.

Checked my insurance. €963 pa €720 excess. As said, includes breakdown and accident recovery and NCB protection.

Transfer of registration from new to old owner costs can be calculated here: https://www.carte-grise.org/tarifs_cheval_fiscal_par_region.htm . Fiscal horsepower is not straightforward hp but a, typically French, taxation calculation. You will be able to find it from the Registration document - "Certificat d'Immatriculation" (still referred to by most as "Carte Grise")

There is no Road Tax after that for the type of vehicle you are envisaging. John

Cheers John, so the right ball park for decent insurance and a real person to talk to over coffee.

I did look at L'Olivier for next time around, decent premiums but who knows in case of a claim.

THANKYOU EVERYONE

Regret it didn’t happen.

Car was sitting on a forecourt for months. Friend of a friends car. Suggested to us. We visited at 5pm one evening together with the owner

Said we would call that evening. As we left rent a crowd (From the village) were looking over the same car and bought it by the time we got home...

Was a steal at €1,000. To be frank the only debate was did we need another car down here, and we don’t really, but at that money it was rude to say no! Just to slow....

Thanks again.

Bill Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

He who dies with the most toys wins...
