took it to an indie who looked and couldn't find anything really obvious. however he did say the parameters hadn't been re-set from when the sensor and inlet manifold was changed 1400 miles ago. He thinks it may have been the ECU being confused by too many incorrect readings and not allowing a regeneration to take place.

Am keeping a keen eye on how it goes. The DPF reading was re-set.

No the IID tool couldn't (or I didn't have the skills/knowedlge) reset it. He said he re-set the parameters (not sure which). He used a (Matrix? I think) machine to read codes and check readings etc.

He was the one who cleaned my DPF and has a very good garage which does everything from mechanicking (is that a real word?) to tuning, paint shop etc. He had a Morgan in there, a lotus and some other sports car so he's obviously quite trusted by owners.

Basically the number of demanded regens has been re-set to zero, along with the soot reading. Interesting the oil/fuel dilution has gone up to 3.1 from 2.05 already.

Not sure this is going to be a fix but we'll see.

Hi Rob, only had a couple if journeys since the reset, but on the 2 x 50 mile motorway trips this week it has performed 100%. In fact although the soot level went up to 9.6g, it did a passive regen down to 8.4 at one point. I haven’t checked the figures since yesterday but will do today and report back.

But essentially, yes, no probs so far. I will ask the garage which parameters he reset.

UPDATE!!

bloody thing has got a yellow DPF full warning again on Tuesday, only 3 weeks after re-setting the inlet manifold parameters. Did a motorway run (it has done a mix of motorway and urban all the time) to regen and it came down by 3g but not on the same motorway run back!!??

No faults showing on IID apart from yellow triangle

initially Reading 24.5g of soot/8,500 demanded regens!! went down to 19.6g - I think it's got to be software or ECM related. incomplete regen status now 1 as opposed to Zero earlier.

I have a number of possibilities:

1. defective seal on the EGR valve block
2. Inlet manifold swirl valve failure (new one fitted in March 2020!)
3. sensors related to the DPF Regeneration or even the DPF assembly
4. JLR released a software uplift for the emissions control/DPF Regeneration. may need this?
5. leak between two of the sensors in the exhuast system that measure dpf soot levels
6. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve not closed.
7. turbocharger NOT maintained in the fully open position
8. The DPF software fault - DPF co-ordinator module faulty or either DPF supervisor module, DPF fuel management module or DPF air management module.
9. ECM Differential pressure sensor fault.

Anyone got any other possibles?

56700 demanded regens in 3 week is about 1 every 30 seconds!!
must be a fault somewhere but i wouldnt know where
hope you get to bottom of this

56,000 was over longer than 3 weeks Laughing

looking a the Iid as I drive, it does go up by dozens every second, sometime hundreds in a minute!! its definitely a ECM thing I think. what baffles me is that it will regen sometimes but not by much (last time it went from 25g to 9.6g) but only 3g on the last run.

my indie is stumped and the LR dealer (non-franchise) doesn't know either.

Anyone got a Technical contact in LR who might be able to give some guidance/direction?

UPDATE No. 2!

So, took her into Dick Lovett at Melksham for an fault find examination on Friday. They admitted they had never seen this before and They found no fault codes and so they did a PCM update and a test drive but failed to find a solution. Fault still there! bizarrely they then suggested that the only thing they could do (as the computer had run out of ideas?) was to do the updated (v2) Turbo Oil drain for several hundred pounds. I asked how that was going to solve a DPF problem as 1. My vehicle didn't smoke and already had the first fix done satisfactorily, and 2. This wasn't relevant to my fault so Why would I pay all that money?

They then say the only thing they could do was raise a Technical case with LR which would involve me bringing the car back to them in late sept and they would have the technician drive it again with LR head office techs asking questions and reading data. Not sure how that is any different from what the tech did in the first place. Will also cost several hundred pounds! (£168/hr)

The situation is this: the car WILL regen at times but only drops 3-4g then stops, while the sensors show over 1,800 regens attempted in 10 mins. It has attempted regens even whilst under the required speed and whilst standing still at lights!.

I have my own suspicion that it's most likely to be the DPF co-ordinator module faulty or the DPF supervisor module which controls the DPF fuel management module or DPF air management module.

BTW,
The service at Dick Lovett was very good. I asked to see the Tech for a sitrep after 90 mins and to their credit they brought him out and we went through what he had done and his thoughts (not a lot). They also only charged me for 1 hr when it was 2.5. So £168 to tell me they don't know what to do.......

Also, they got me an instant test drive on the New defender which was nice but my wish spec (HSE plus explorer pack, pano roof and tow bar) was £65k!! Shocked It was a nice drive and not bad for a 4-pot but small rear boot space.

Anyway, anyone know any chief Techs at LR I can talk to ?
