Changed the battery last year and the warning appeared again within 12 months, bought 2 new Duracell batteries as advised and fitted one, still same error on dashboard, swapped the battery for the other spare and still same error. I have tried starting the engine and then stopping, locking the car, unlock etc but no luck....is there anything else I could try ? Thanks
The batteries were put in a few days ago and having searched this site I did wait a few days as you suggested. I can't see it being the batteries so maybe a garage trip may be required...maybe just a reset somewhere ??
Did you place the fob next to lower dash area? I think I did that too.See owners handbook for location.
Worth a try

I wouldn’t rule out the battery....they are VERY fickle..
Make sure that their are no greasy fingerprints on the contacts by polishing the battery and fob contacts with a tissue.

issue resolved : I tried my spare key which was completely dead and put one of the batteries in that, this cleared the warning and now the other key also looks ok..I also cleaned the cells and made sure the contacts were dust/ fingerprint free...so maybe using the spare key to start the car clears the fault for the other key, weird but working....Thanks for the advice

The spare key fob for my L322 2012 Westy was suddenly blank/not working last week when me and my new mobile mechanic set about doing a proper service (the (dodgy) main dealers and 'specialists' have had three opportunities as requested by myself to do a proper full service and have never complied even when they've had a list of item TO DO... so goodbye to them all) on the old girl, and so I sent off for some Duracell CR2032s, and popped a new battery into the dead spare fob as soon as arrival - AND - nothing!!!
Then I read this thread in particular, and a youtube post, and I really polish cleaned the contact surfaces of the battery (they have a very sticky child safety sticker on one side) and operated the number one key fob next to the not working fob with polished up battery, and hey presto the spare fob worked!!!
Amazing how such simple things can give us so much pleasure and relief...
Thanks again for this thread - even though I'm probably going to be passing on the grand lady (L322) soon after our epic full service has been fully undertaken (some new bits are on order - air filter screws are seized for starters) and after four and a half years of virtually trouble free driving, mostly because it is so hard to trust most folk with such glorious luxury vehicles. I just hope she goes to a good future home...
