I decided to rotate my nearside wheels yesterday and all seemed fine, until I took the car out to the shops. Xmas tree full of lights, HDC inactive, transmission error, suspension error and a few more. After coming out of the shops, same issue on the way home. Reset all errors, all seemed well, ran ok for a few minutes then the same errors pop up. Plugged it into the C-Tek charger on and left it overnight. Took the car out today and it seemed ok, until it all went haywire again.
What’s strange is that the HDC error comes up as I turn on the ignition but don’t start the engine. I’m assuming it’s no coincidence that this has only happened since I rotated the wheels but I’m puzzled as to what I could have done that would have caused this?

The error occurring without moving suggests open circuit on an ABS sensor. Maybe a connector was bumped or there's a break in a wire that was moved.

I had this on ours. Completely unrelated to your wheel swap though...it was a split top intercooler hose...

Ok, here’s what I’ve found today.

Battery charged over night. Turn ignition on, not stared the engine, HDC fault immediately.

Did you lift the car off all 4 wheels at the same time. I had similar issues after a 4 wheel alignment apparently it can send the ride height sensors a bit off.

Just a thought also after that, probably unrelated but very soon after the steering angle sensor failed.

No, I did the front n/s first, then put an axle stand under it and did the n/s rear, as I only have 1 jack.

I had already rotated the o/s wheels in a similar fashion and saw similar issues with HDC inactive messages but only once and having charged the battery, it never came back.

I’m just wondering if the fact that there were different sizes of tyres on the same axle was ok but now I’ve put the same size on the front and a different size on the rear, the ECU is getting a bit confused. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

That is your issue All tyres should be the same all round. It can cause major transmission issues too. A big no-no

Raid your piggy bank and treat it to 4 new tyres....55 all round will give it a comfier ride

Just 1 small flaw in all this excellent logic.

Why did I not get any errors at all when the 255/55s were both on the rear and the 255/50s were both on the front, as opposed to now, when they’re the other way around? Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

No idea but mismatched tyre sizes are definitely a bad thing to do. Transmission wind up etc 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"
