Slight noise.

Hi chaps,

Got a slight noise, sounds like an induction noise Or a turbo noise, noticed it last week when pootling.

It happens specifically at 1075 to 1100 rpm and causes a small reasonance in the steering wheel, sounds like blowing gently over a bottle ish..... Seems to disappear if I increase the revs. It might be slightly still present.

Does anyone else’s 4.4 do this? Never noticed it before but I was sitting in traffic a fair bit last week and it was slight but noticeable.

Bow down There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thinking it’s engine speed related, I’m going to have a hunt over the weekend to see if I can pin it down. Somehow feels like it could be steering pump or something on the front.

Could be large turbo, but I don’t think so as it seems to get to a point then level out but the resonance goes.

Strange one. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Had a good listen to mine Mark, the noisiest thing seems to be the high pressure fuel pump but that’s more a mechanical noise, there is if I’m super critical very slight engine vibration through the low rev range but I just put that down to it being a Diesel engine. They don’t have a steering pump in the traditional sense, it’s an electric motor on the steering rack, but still lots of stuff belt driven on the engine so could be one of these. If you can replicate it stationary you could try dropping the belt off then running, but only very short duration as you have no water pump / alternator. Good luck with your search.

First time I’ve had a listen with the bonnet open.

I can’t hear anything particularly out of the ordinary in there. As you say Dave the Hp pump is quite noisy, it there is no whooshing noise etc, might be a slight hum off something at the front which coincides with the Rpm and wheel resonance but it’s not loud.

It’s quite tricky to hold the revs at 1050 but when I did I got the slight resonance through the wheel, but there didn’t really seem to be an associated louder noise from the engine bay.

I think I will live with it a bit and see how it progresses. Car was cold so I will have another go later after it’s been out. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
