OBD reader recommendations, and some fuel tank info | |
For the second time this year my FFRR (06, SC) has left me stranded by the roadside with no fuel.
And I mean: “has left me stranded”. On both occasions the fuel gauge needle and the electronic range indicator were showing fuel (first time: close to half a tank, IIRC; this time, warning light on with 40 miles of range).
The first time the problem was diagnosed as a stuck float in the fuel tank. Pretty sure that was the problem tonight - a mile walk to the nearest petrol station, a quick decant, a lumpy start to clear the air in the fuel lines, and all was well again.
So: there’s something to bear in mind! Symptoms are that the car behaves like you’re running out of fuel (basically the engine asphyxiates) even though your eyes are telling you you have fuel.
I now have a permanently lit amber engine management light on the dash. This evening I had a “Reduced Engine Power” warning, then a flashing EM light, then a permanent one. But it won’t clear now the car is running - it may do overnight I suppose, but if it doesn’t:
(a) can I clear it with an OBD reader, and if yes
(b) what OBD reader do you folks recommend for this sort of task?
Thanks. Range Rover 4.2 SC
