On my 2012 WM the first time it was the fuel burning heater software (is it under 5 degrees in Shetland yet?) and the second time it was the central locking software. In each case the battery was completely flattened. The solution was to have the dealer do a diagnostic check and then deal with the software fault. It seems that battery discharge in that way can cause it to be unable to hold charge properly in future, and I was told that this could be tested only once the battery has been fully charged. The first time the battery was no longer viable (about a year old), the replacement was OK.
