just my two pence worth....

It all depends on the specific car and what has already been done.

There is by now a really comprehensive list of issues that affect more or less all cars so you know what will need fixing at some point. From there you can check off the things that have allrady been taken care of.

The costs tend to add up pretty quickly....

That said, great cars and great value for money in my opinion RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

I'd expect £2-3k in the worst scenario on things that could go wrong. But I'd be getting a 6 month, with a possible extension, warranty that would cover engine/transmission faults with it. I'd hope nothing major would go wrong for the first few thousand miles at least.


I was unlucky with my turbo replacement but without that expense it would have been about £1500 in year 1 Thumbs Up

Did the O rings and oil cooler gaskets myself.

Not fun granted, but pretty easy. Parts came to less than £30. Genuine gaskets.

8 months down the line and no leaks since...so I must have done something right 😂 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster - Baltic Blue, Jet interior

Bought our 2011 TDV8 4.4 Vogue SE around 2.5 years ago, it had just under 80K on the clock and came with a full main dealer service history, previously run by senior manager at Guy Salmon LR.

It's never been a problem, never let us down, now has 103K on the clock, with just the usual L322 stuff to fix / replace, most of which I only did this year:

1) Discs and pads all round
2) Handbrake shoes
3) 2 x lower front suspension arms (balljoints had play)
4) 2 x upper front arm bushes (bushes worn)
5) 1 x rear upper hub knuckle joint
6) 1 x Front height sensor
7) Rear wiper motor - water leak
8 ) Auxillary belt tensioner and belts (the original tensioners crack and squeek)
9) Engine oil and filters
10) Wiper blades
11) 4 x Tyres

That's it, around 25K miles, nothing expensive or exceptional. A big car like this goes through pads / discs and front suspension ball joints fairly quickly as expected.

Not had any issues with leaking oil coolers, nor any exhaust smoke from 2nd turbo drain, haven't looked if it's been modded though.

All in all, these cars are very reliable. If you're handy with the spanners costs can be kept very low and of course diagnostics is a doddle with the GAP IID tool, with lots of tech support available. I also run an Audi and the diagnostics (Odis) seems to need a masters degree in programming by comparison.
