Axle shaft: OEM or aftermarket?

Hi everyone,

My '09 L322 Autobiography has a torn front drivers side outer CV boot. My mechanic recommends (and I agree) to replace the whole axle. Since we don't know how long it's been torn it's possible that some debris has gotten in and could have caused damage to the CV joint.

The OEM part runs about $600 (I'm in the USA). There are aftermarket brands and rebuilt ones out there. I think I'd rather get new than rebuilt.

Any comments on aftermarket brands or where to buy it?

Thanks in advance!

Give site sponsor Duckworthparts a shout.

They will be able to source the part, not sure about shipping tho. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Try a direct email, they don’t list much on their site it’s a more 1 to 1 thing.

The knuckle on the end of the driveshaft can be replaced fairly easily (excepting that they rust into the splines!). I did mine. Rob. 05 L322 4.2SC

I did both my front cv/drive shafts a few months ago. I used Atlantic British, I'm pleased with their service and so far so good. Now that I've got the experience I think if I ever have to do them again I'd just buy a "service" kit, way cheaper and not to difficult.

Thanks for all of the input!

The only aftermarket unit that was recommended by at least two people was British Atlantic. But, theirs was out of stock and would have been about $400 USD once you include shipping. I ended up ordering the OEM axle from a local Land Rover dealer for $585 USD plus sales tax (VAT for those of you in the UK Smile ).

Thanks again!

Any chance of a picture of your Rangie, Larry? Bourneville with a light interior is a lovely combination!
