Spare wheel removal kit

Thanks to Dan Roberts at Duckworths for supplying the kit this week.
Not being a 6 footer together with a fragile back this has made getting the spare wheel out so much easier.

The kit comprises:-
KTL 000011....Lifting handle + webbing strips
KYP 000400.....Socket Cap Head Screws (2 off)
EPX 000030....Safety Stay (Prevents tailgate shutting when replacing wheel in car)

Ł43.69

I fitted it this morning and it works a treat, im very surprised that this item was discontinued as a standard fitting.
Having found a number of informative posts about this item I wont repeat the information.
The only thing if, like me if your unsure if it can be fitted, look for 2 threaded fixing points on a small panel (see picture).
Peter

What's that big metal bar above the tailgate strap in the second picture ?

Is that the safety stay ?

Not seen one of those before

Its plastic Alistair and keeps the lower tailgate from closing... So a formed plastic stay Thumbs Up

Ah - got it - maybe I did have one of those & just never figured out what it was for - it does look kind of familiar now that I look at it properly Embarassed

It took me a while to figure out where it went as the kit didnt have any pictures with it.
The last thing you want is a knock from the lower tailgate coming up as your sliding the wheel back in place.
Also, I believe you can buy it separately if you dont have one :- EPX 000030....Safety Stay

I am glad I found this thread.

Is there a place for the brace to be stored, or does it just get thrown in with the spare. Seems like it would rattle around back there.

Mine hasn’t got one of these, just thought someone had took it out. When did it stop being standard?

It’s a right pain getting the wheel out without it. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I didn’t notice it didn’t have one, or I would have. Another backwards move, like the cheaper headlining an creaky plastics.... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I didn't realise it was available as a kit. I've just bought one from ebay for not much less, and it doesn't include the brace.

Ah well. The problem I've found is that with 21in wheels, there's not enough space for the handle to stow properly so the boot floor won't go down flush. Anyone else had this?

It was such a pig to get the spare out to fit it that I'm glad I've now got it - I would hate to have to try and repeat that exercise at the side of the road. 2010 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

I have exactly the same problem since I changed my tyre size to 255 55 20.
The wheel only just fits in and the lifter sits proud.

France 2009 Range Rover Supercharged 5.0 SC V8 Ipanema Sand

Hello everyone,

I am very interested in this kit allowing to extract the spare wheel more easily ... Without, it is so heavy. Big Cry

However I have a question, will this fit for a standard 20 " ,255 50 20 wheel?
Will the lifting handle still be able to stow without "lifting" the boot floor?

In advance, thanks for your answer. FFRR 5.0 SC 2009

I thought it was a standard fitting.

Yes, it works with the 255x50R20 wheels and the cover still sits flush. You might have to jostle the wheel forward a bit.

What I need is the big O-ring that retains the jack in position. I’ll have to check MicroCat for the part no. Ron B. VK2OTC

I'm not sure why this question was asked.

The various tyre/wheel combinations should all have the same overall diameter otherwise the effective gearing would be different. Ron B. VK2OTC
