I just went onto the Warranty Direct website and it states that they are not taking on any new customers. They go on to say that they will still support existing customers.

Anyone know when WD stopped taking on new business?

The have effectively gone bust, which ultimately will have something to do with their TrustPilot rating. The are blaming it on their underwriter Lamp, but there can be no doubt, even if they stay in business, that they should be avoided.

For years I have always checked TrustPilot before taking up any internet based service.

The initial reason I refused to renew with them earlier this year, after the dealer warranty through them ran out, was their TrustPilot rating at that time.

Whilst checking the TrustPilot rating during the unsolicited telephone call from their high pressure sales person, I noted their high negative feedback rating and refused the renewal. They none the less sent an offer through email and then promptly took a payment without me signing off on the warranty documentation, which led to months of correspondence before they refunded the money.

An approved JLR independent near me has always recommended LR Extended Warranty as the best and accordingly not the cheapest but the one that usually accepts genuine claims with out too much argument.
Guess you do get what you pay for of course there will always be those to argue the toss but they are an excellent approved independent family firm that don’t earn a penny from their recommendation..
I have no connection with them apart from being a grateful customer.

Actually wanted to add to this thread.

I took out a WD extended warranty after the LR warranty expired. Because of Lockdown and me not driving they allowed a delay in start date of six months.

Have just taken the car in for repairs at main dealer.

(they seem to have been taken over by BNP Paribas Cardif)

the warranty was £1900/3 years cover which seemed a good deal to me at about £600/year which I could easily see mounting up. I took the top of the range cover with them that allowed main dealer prices and covered everything.

as always it turns out it doesn't cover everything for example the entire exhaust system is excluded.

But anyway this dealer visit they've paid for £3,000 of repairs and I had to pay £200 excess (£50x4 claims) and I still have two years cover to go. So I'm pretty happy with that.

they paid for:-

- replacement of exhaust manifold which was warped and causing gas to escape. (I actually took in because I was getting a whistling noise and smell of oil - thought the turbo hose had split like it did on my two previous RR's)
- replace CSOV which was stuck open - well-known issue I think
- roof access via side steps not working needed fixing
- reverse camera issue
- infotainment software update
- 4x4 info software update
- water ingress in door handle replaced
- there was probably the stuff

4 official warranty claims with £50 excess each time. not sure which exactly WD paid for but you get idea

total repairs closer to £5-6,000 because some items not covered by WD.

but overall has made me feel better about the extended warranty option. at least I got back more than I paid with two years to go.
