L322 td6 steering angle implausible fault

Hi all new to the forum.
Got a strange issue with my Range Rover. After 20 miles or so of driving I get all abs, dsc, hill descent inactive and air suspension inactive cone on the dash.
This clears as soon as the Range Rover is turned off and back on again. Plugging it in shows steering angle sensor implausible.

When doing live diagnostics, the steering angle sensor all moves correctly with no jumps or hesitation.

I’m wondering could this just require an alignment and recalibration of the sensor. As Before this happened I replaced all front suspension arms and they were all completely knackered, one front air strut assembly and changed the tyre size from a non standard 20 inch tyre size to a standard fitment size. The steering wheel is now about 20 degrees off centre when travelling straight ahead. But the steering wheel in the straight position still shows zero degrees.

Could it be that simple?

Check the ABS sensors. I had a similar issue and evey time I checked it said steering angle fault on the ID tool. I purchased a second hand steering angle sensor but was unable to fit it myself due to access issues. The last time I checked and cleared the fault it said rear offside ABS sensor open circuit ! Purchased a generic one and after fitting have had no further issues Smile Did take nearly 4 hours from start to finish to remove the old one - after 18 years it didn't want to come out with a fight Smile

You need to correct the position of the steering wheel to the straight ahead position when driving in a straight line.
Doing this may well resolve your problem. It did on mine when a similar problem happened on mine when I changed a track rod end and ended up with the steering wheel off centre. Correcting the steering wheel by adjusting the track rod end resolved the problem.
It probably means having the front wheels correctly aligned not just moving the steering wheel.
Bear in mind to correct the steering wheel by 20 degrees means a very small adjustment to the steering geometry, about half a turn on a track rod end for example.
After correcting the steering wheel I suggest doing a steering angle sensor recalibration by turning the steering wheel full lock to full lock a couple of times. Thumbs Up

DSC needs steering angle, speed and lateral G via the yaw sensor to agree.

With 20 degrees of steering input and no sideways moment the system logs the fault code and implicates the steering angle sensor as it assumes your tracking is correct and you wouldn't knowingly drive around with such an obvious issue.

Easily fixed - track it - fairly simple when you see what the DSC needs to operate. Its not complex enough to calibrate itself to whatever off centre position the steering wheel ends up in after being put back together without alignment.

Everything has the capacity to fail but with such an obvious issue with the steering wheel I wouldn't even be considering sensor failure until that is sorted.
