Hi All,

I have put around 300-400 miles on my recent purchase which is a very late 2012 Westminster. Mechanically, the vehicle breezes on the road, no rough idling or lumpy throttle. All the problems seem to be little electrical issues.

This is what I've discovered so far -

. Front courtesy lighting - The front courtesy lights don't work on opening the door or via the switches. The rear courtesy lights work fine and can be controlled via the light switch i the front. If one bulb goes can this take the rest of them out?

. Very intermittent heater blower. Leaving home this morning, the blower functioned as it should. Motor does sound a little loud though. By mid-day, blower completely unresponsive. I did read about it could be the final stage resistor? Or could this be the blower motor itself?

. Parking sensors are extremely intermittent as picked up on a previous post of mine.

. Oil level not available - Tried to check the oil level however the message displays unavailable. This was after around an hour and a half of driving and in a level car park.


Could there be anything that links these problems together or should i approach these all as independent issues? Any advice or assistance would be very much appreciated. Many thanks !

Trying holding in the front central light switch for several seconds..you can knock the interior lights off doing this.

FSR normally leaves fan switched in but may be the cause.

For oil level check need engine hot, parked level and to stand for about 20 minutes. Again I believe this can be read differently with bonnet open. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

Heater.
Check fuse in boot first. It’s one labelled with a fan symbol. If ok then FSR next cheapest check
FSR - see https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic58107.html from earlier today. Accessed from footwell. Try replacing that.
Also try lubricating the fan motor spindle via pollen box removed. Worth a try.

Agree with the above. Holding the light switch in for a good few seconds will stop it coming on. Useful if leaving doors open etc. Press and hold again to return to normal operation. Worth a try.

The FSR is the cheapest and easiest place to start, and quite a common issue.

Wait for about 15 to 20 mins after turning engine off before you try and check the oil level. But not much longer.... or you will get the same message again. Failing that, I imagine you have a sensor issue.

Courtesy lights are you talking door puddles or inside lights?

Oil level, It needs to stand and settle for about 20-30mins on a hot engine to get a reading. It will give the response you said if it isnt ready.

The heater blower sounds like the switch. If you put it on auto does it come on?

Have a look at the sensors, have they been blown over with paint?

They all sound like individual issues, don’t think there is anything in common there. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

For the oil level....
Try the following.
Open the bonnet
Press start button to bring up display but DON’T start engine
Getup the oil level message even if it says Not Available
Double click the cruise control reset button
Oil level should now rest and level show.

In regards to the interior lighting, its absolutely everything in the front including the illuminated tread plates. I will try pressing and holding the main switch for around three second to see if it is the simple case that continuous off has been triggered.

As to the heater blower - all the switches and lights on the control work as they should and a believe it is heating up as if you put your hand to the vents they do feel warm. Would a fuse case an intermittent problem with the blower?

Does the bonnet always have to be open in order to check the oil level?

No, bonnet can be shut for oil level. I think what was being touched on is that there is a sequence to follow to force it to tell you if you are outside the normal check period. I’ve never had to do that in 5 years. Just leave it for 15 or 20.... ignition on.... go into the display and it should show you.

I can’t see a fuse causing an intermittent problem. It’s either blown or it’s not. Sounds like FSR to me....

Blower fuse = check it in boot to make sure it's not blown. You may need a multimeter to check it once removed.
Oil = no bonnet does not need opening unless you want to "cheat" it and use the double cancel route.
It should work cold or 20min post hot switch off as per the manual = ign on, go into menu. Let it stabilise when reading too. There is a YouTube video or 2 as well

Oil level,...
The bonnet open method is particularly useful when you are doing an oil change and need to keep checking to get the level right, because it saves time having to keep waiting 20 minutes for it to automatically reset.

Few updates for you all. Oil level display is now working, I think it must of been due to me trying to check the oil level too soon after switching the engine off

Interior lighting - I tried pressing and holding the central button, after a few seconds the rear light flashes once however no activation of the lighting in the front. I have also noticed the reading lights don't work in the rear and the lights underneath the wing mirrors flicker. And more ideas on this one? Looking at the manual I downloaded, doe the central junction boxes ever produce a fault? I will check the light fitting in the front with a multimeter tomorrow to see if the fitting itself is drawing any power however it must be if it is still switching the rear interior light on and off?

Heater/blower - The intermittent blower yesterday is now completely dead today. unit definitely heats up as you can feel warmth around the vents. The rear blower also works fine. The more I'm thinking about this, the more I'm thinking this could well be the blower motor which has seized? I didn't get round to checking the fuse with a multimeter but I will do that tomorrow.

When you put your lights on (side/main rather than interior) do you get anything from the 2 ambient LED's (you might need to hold your hand close to tell). I am assuming the you have checked the bulbs in the interior light unit too. Just wondering if these have been changed for LED's too and have blown or have thrown a fault 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE
