Hi Red,
Yes, I have two Disco 3s (one for more than 9 years now) and a Disco 1 (since 2003) currently.
I have driven both my Fathers D4 Landmark MY16 and his new D5 MY20, which he traded the D4 for.
Unfortunately, as it has been lockdown the last two times I have been back in the UK, I have been unable to book a test drive in the new Defender, so my remarks were aimed more at the fact that the D5 was a disappointment to me (and to my Father, who regrets trading the D4 in now!)
CB,
I can fully appreciate your dad’s deep disappointment after having traded in a late D4 Landmark. I’d be interested to see what you make of the Defender when you try it.
Looking at the outside, I can see why drivers of 1-4 Discoveries look on this as a genuine replacement. But, actually sitting inside, just as the D5 seems like being in a tall version of a generic German or Korean estate car/sporty SUV, the inside of the new Defender has skewed it much more in the direction of an original Defender. To some (like me), that’ll be good news, but to many it may look like another miss in creating a worthy Discovery 5.
Sadly, it’s still the lack of a split tailgate that still kills it for me.
