Am new to this forum so not sure I should be posting here but I recently bought a 2016 RR and unfortunately had to get dpfspecialist.co.uk to force a regen and clean it back in November (it went from Yellow to Red before I had chance to go for a lengthy drive). This week however, having been driving around consistently, the DPF red light came on without any warning (no yellow!!)...very frustrating and can't understand why...(cold weather?) I have been googling like fury - is it worth getting a diagnostic tool to force a regen myself or does that not really work - i.e. do I just have to pay another £230 odd to get it fixed again....

You either have an intake leak e,g a split hose or you’re not doing enough long journeys to burn off the soot in the DPF.
Personally I’d have the codes read by an independent specialist and also have a HIGH pressure smoke test done to check for air leaks.

wot Dr Rob sed. I had exactly the same symptoms as you and it was a pax side inlet manifold crack (minute, hard to see). LR supposedly changed the specs for later models (mine is 2011) and made it thicker and more able to resist flexing.

BTW, it will have to be a HIGH pressure smoke test otherwise the leak won't be discernible.

LR only charge £90 for a forced regen but the soot levels have to be below a certain level (28.5 for my year DPF) otherwise their software can't do it.

There are OBD readers (GGDR and others have bought them) that will remove a red light but you will still need to fix the problem.
