P400 engine

Anyone considered the P400 in the L405?

Is it a new engine as such.....I mean like recent? all smug in my new plug!

Switzerland 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Stornoway Grey

It's brand new. A mild hybrid straight six with turbo and electric supercharger.

Only problem is it's in a car that's due for replacement this year.

Review.

Not a bad review that Kurt.

Would maybe be the right choice for me if I don't consider the 5.0 - tbh just dont want another diesel for the adblu faffing. all smug in my new plug!

If that’s true, why did JLR both invest in a new engine family and in a new V8 assembly line?

Yes, picked one up just before Christmas. Needed a stop gap between a then 2 year old iPace and next year's L460 MHEV, which in turn will be a stop gap to what I really want, 2024 L460 EV.

TBH, I have yet to adjust to it - very difficult to come from a full EV back to ICE, the performance characteristics are so different.

I think I would have waited. I jumped because:
- my iPace was a very early one (Sep 2018) and although I had a mostly fantastic experience with it, residuals were strong and I didn't want to risk another 12-18 months.
- I got a pretty good deal to somewhat mitigate the inevitable eye watering depreciation. (But, fwiw, the alternative may have been 12-18 mo Pivotal Ultraviolet @ £1600/mo.)
- I was planning to go away over Christmas, and needed the capacity of a RR.

So no super compelling reasons. But the inside of a new L405 P400 AB is not a bad place to be while ruminating on life.

Bear in mind that JLR new car quality seems to have taken a dive again based on what I read about the Velar and Defender.

L405 did not have the bugs sorted out until MY15. It will most likely take at least as long for L460.

So you will have to wait for 3-4 years, unless you really like the free coffee at the dealership.
