Symbols on windshield?

Hi everyone,

I got a small crack (passenger side) on my windshield. I'm pretty sure this can be fixed by a local glass shop and will be covered by my insurance.

But it got me thinking (a potentially dangerous thing!) about what would happen if something happened where it could not be fixed. I have a 2009 Autobiography that has a heated and climate glass. I'm not really sure what the "climate glass" is but it's unique to the Autobiography version.

I took a picture of the printed information on the windshield and it has those two funny symbols on the lower left and right of the image.

I'm guessing the one on the left shows it's heated and the one on the right maybe the "climate glass." Any thoughts?

And, if this were to break, could I contact Pilkington directly and order a replacement? I really doubt that the local glass place will have an off-brand replacement.

Thanks!

Hi Larry

You are correct the left hand symbol is heated screen.

The right hand arrow symbol signifies acoustic glass and the thermometer indicates climate or solar reflection glass.

Somewhere I had a file of the markings, if I find it I'll post it for you.

As to ordering, here in the UK we usually insisit the screen repairer uses an original LR glass to the same spec. and leave it to them to find one. They are getting rarer as the car maunfacturer specifies a certain number to be produced. At the end of that run the glass manufacturer then can sell their units a OEM, same spec, no LR branding. I'ts all about original, then OEM and then aftermarket by anyone else. Cheers

Hi Richard,

Thanks for all the great info!

And yes, I'd love to see that file with the markings if you can find it.

I sent Pilkington USA an e-mail asking about this. I'm starting to think it may be a good idea for me to find one now (if it's even possible) just to keep around for the eventuality that it's going to break sometime. It seems that windshields breaking has become a fact of life with more and more cars on the roads. Sad

Thanks!

I think I found it here: https://www.pilkington.com/en-gb/uk/automo...e-products

They also give a description of what each symbol means.

Thanks!

I have climate glass on my 2007 VSE, or "thermally insulated" as I was informed.
