I've never done it your engine but I can't see it taking anywhere near 10 hours, however it is routed you can pull a fish wire through with the old one and pull the new one back through...

Do it yourself mate. I had to pay some one to do my alternator but when it went again I thought I'd do it myself. Had it all off swapped and replaced within 2 hours. Longest part was trying to get the viscous nut to break with out the correct tool |

I would hope they quote it based on autodata or whatever it is called. I've not done it on this car but even on my daughters Golf MK2 it took me a while to route it properly, and deal with the various clips and taking parts off and on to get it to go in place. Clearly the owner before us took a shortcut and just did a throw it in and hope it sticks job...

Have you checked the alternator is definitely doing what it should? A friend of mine had all manner of problems with a 2007 TDV8 and it turned out it was the output from the alternator messing around... it was an alternator that hadn't long been replaced too! 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather
