Steering Rack Knock (4.4 TDV8) Rear End Knocking | |
Experiencing some undesirable handling & knocking noises from my '11 L322 lately.
Excuse the essay, will try to explain as best I can.
Steering doesn't feel quite right.
I recently replaced both arms and balljoints.
With engine off, when turning wheel side to side you can hear a knocking. (engine on, no knocking.
I changed the offside steering arm and end as it felt like it was from that side (no change)
Steering has been slightly off centre since I bought it. So also retracked with very slight Toe In.
Drives straight but is easily pulled about by the road surface. Also doesn't ride bumps the best front or rear (more on that to follow).
Does anyone else have knocking noise when turning wheel with engine off? Or is it new rack time (no leaks)
Currently running L405 21" wheels with matching Pirelli tyres all round.
Now for the rear.
Changed the upper bushes as they were shot. Seemed to be ok for a short time.
Now get pretty bad ride quality. Upper bushes are fine. Cannot feel any play in Lower bushes.
Anti roll bar links front and rear seem ok (doesn't sound like ARB link noise)
Also can't feel any excess play in the rear toe arms. But quite hard to tell.
Any help would be appreciated.
Starting to avoid driving it.
