Replaced my stop / start button after reading TTB's excellent how to post, managed to source a new original button for £25 from flea bay from a guy who sells LR parts.

Bought just the button cap part from ebay for only £8.12 including postage.

N.B. this is NOT as easy as indicated - you can potentially severely damage the dash surround trying to 'pop' out the old switch - it does not work and you end up with a damaged button switch. the extraction explanation needs to be a lot clearer. 2010 3.6 TDV8 Vogue

It really is as simple as indicated.

The guide doesn’t ‘need’ to be anything more than it is, as it’s a free resource for the home mechanic kindly compiled and published free of charge to be helpful by fellow enthusiasts. End of.

There is always potential to damage your car when working on it, the OP has shown the method and lots of people have done it with no damage and saved a lot of money.

As with most of these things you need some trim sympathy, take your time and use the smallest tool possible and it is a very doable job.... Pete

Sorry to ask (I'm obviously a bit green) what do you mean by plug and play 5-mins? Does the system have to accept the new item? Do you attach new item and wait 5-mins before it will work? I recently tried changing my split original button for an Ebay LR050802 button (got some Chinese hieroglyphs on it) and expected it to operate right away - and it didn't - and assumed it was broke in post... Do you have to wait 5-mins until it works then?
Sorry if this seems a pathetic question - but I'm no mechanic, and new here...

I used three stiff guitar plectrums instead of hard screw driver/s to save upsetting the leather by the way...

Yes my Chinese variant (Ebay peep said it wasn't but it was) switch was £30 and it didn't work after trying cracked old and new new, three times swapy swapy at least, using my trusty thick plectrums to pop out unit first. I got my money back after mentioning feedback critique and also have a non working Chinese switch to boot, which they didn't want back. The Chinese one seems to have one less metal connector at plug point than the original, which might be why no worky worky?!?

Unnecessary quote removed

It would be handy to know what the unit looks like after the old button cover has been prised off?
I've gotten down to removing the small circuitry block by gently prising even smaller tabs on the sides of the unit, but still can't fathom out how that bloody press cover and inner moving section can be released, for better access to the button cover. I've tried gently levering cover out, but it just don't want to be budged. I'm still looking for even smaller tabs (somewhere) that need to be prised/prodded/poked to release that last section... I'm doing my best not to break unit as I want to obtain one of those covers to have the unit as a spare, after having one Ebay unit arriving not working but the second whole unit working AOK. I reckon the unit that arrived but did not work got bashed in post - but at least I got my money back. If only I could fix that one too.
