TD6 Power Steering Issue

I took my dog for a walk yesterday and the car drove fine down to the field, but when I got back in the power steering felt almost lumpy, as you turn the wheel a quarter turn at a time it fluctuates between very heavy and very light. I went to move the car again today and it’s still like this.

When I bought the car back in February we did a full flush of the steering system as it felt a bit heavy ans I’ve done maybe 3,000 miles since. Car is a 2004 TD6 with 144k.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you. '04 Adriatic Blue Td6 Vogue

There is a 'Heavy steering steering diagnosis help' section in the Wiki part, that may help.

If the problem is intermittent it could be the pump drive belt slipping? Just start with the simplest faults to rule them out.

Is it only with the steering wheel in the same rotational positions ?
If yes, it's likely to be a steering column UJ that needs lubricating - eg with a good spray of WD40. Paul,

Yes it seems to be that way, every 45 degrees or so.

Thank you, I’ll dig out the WD40! '04 Adriatic Blue Td6 Vogue

My 05 td6 has a similar issue, my local indi told me that it’s the servotronic valve, I haven’t yet fitted it though.
