Shiny tyres?

Couldn't think where else to put this, and nothing on search. But just wondered what tips or ideas or products (DIY would be better) anyone has on keeping our big fatty tyres looking nice and shiny and new. I have a few products and even tried liquid silicone but the shine is gone after every drive - even if only after a dozen miles or so. And the big beast's look so sad and pitiful with grubby tyres. Neutral

This one may be a bit labour intensive, but a fireman once told me they kept their fire engine tyres looking spotless by using good old fashioned shoe polish or dubbin. As for how often it had to be re-applied, I have no idea, but it's also cheaper than the tyre shine products that as you say don't last long.

I've been after an ultimate tyre shine product for a while.

I use a gel now and it's good but expensive, but I'm still looking for that trader magic that costs peanuts. Despite watching a few trader's vids, I haven't been able to find this unicorn yet.

However recently I watched an Aussie guy use bitumen, like a pot for repairing roofs, mixed with thinners and it looked very very good and he said it lasted ages.

When you go to the local carwash they use some kind of magic slop with a brush that might be something like above too.

It's on my list next trip to. B&Q

. Cheers, Greg

Most of the tyre ‘shine’ stuff is awful and after a few miles it’s sprayed all over the bodywork. Dirty tyres done look great either, so from time to time I use a tyre gel which dries to a very low shine and just makes the tyres look new. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

I use tyre dressing from rac, excellent stuff, lasts for ages and it's only £2 a can from B&M. Much better than the other big brands, trust me.

Tried some boot polish before - takes hours.
Not tried dubbin yet!

Yeah that's the usual SOP... Just wish they'd stay cleaner for longer.

At the gaff where I purchased the beastie I once asked the son of the owner (fink he was on something) if there was any way of keeping the wheels and tyres cleaner for longer (I was shocked at how filthy they get/got so quickly as it was my first RR) he responded: (Are you a CNUT or what?")
We both laughed our heads off right afterwards...
Twas funny...

Sounds like an old army trick... worth consideration. We got an old tyre in the garden where flowers grow - as long as the boss don't spot my bituminous attempts...

I get a guy in twice a year to do full inside out: £120.00 - and I keep asking for the name of what he uses on the tyres and the black window framing and corner areas or sell me some - and he always manages to do the job and leave without telling me. Guess he thinks he'll loose a job...

That sounds OK: gel. I remember using a kind of green renovation gel (Halfords) on the plasticy rubbery body strips and stuff on my 2000 Freelander, that always made the areas look like new, but only for about a week. I'll look at gels though...

I can almost see a B&M from from our rear windows - great idea. That stuff is £6-odd elsewhere - so worth a try.

Rolling with laughter

I would literally suffer a Connery if my wheels got that muddy: or down a bottle of good whiskey! Whiskey with honey is good - the honey is good for your health! Shocked

Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel. You only need a tiny bit. A bottle costs about a tenner.

I've had my bottle about 10 years and I'm about half way through it.

50p a year, you can't get better value than that! Kev
