Mine does initially, then revs around 1500 for a high idle until settling into a sub 1000 when warmed up a little. I always let it settle to a low idle before driving away. Typically only happens when cold.

I hate it, any way of stopping that happening? Can’t be good for the motor. 2015 AB 5.0 Supercharged

Mine does that, I think it's normal and don't worry it will damage the engine. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

Mine is the same, no issues doing it, oil pressure is instantaneous on modern engines, no need to let it settle or warm up, just drive away.. Pete

It's probably done to warm the engine up quicker. Just an assumption. Kev

It only does it for a second, don't think it will have much effect on warm up... It holds the lower gears longer when cold to help with warm up...

My mechanical sympathy says that 5000 rpm sounds a very high rev for initial start up. Despite the previous "claim" that modern engines have instantaneous oil pressure. Bare or dry metal bearings on a crankshaft is not good at that engine speed. Recipe for serious engine damage in my opinion. |

It's 2000, not 5000, sometimes you just have to believe that the guys who design these engines know what they are talking about, the 5.0 S/C is a Ford engine, it's used by Ford Jaguar and Land Rover, they will do mega miles with little to no problems and certainly don't wear out bearings any faster than any other engine...
