Hello,
I shall be shortly purchasing my first RR (03/53) and I've read about the stripped splines on the prop-shaft into the front diff and the associated recall that was issued.

My question is this, I've seen the pictures on rangerovers.net identifying an original and a modified system and I should be able to tell the difference when I see it but is it possible to see this without removing any panels?

When I go to look at cars if I get under them will I be able to see the diff without removing anything?

The diff recall is free and any LR garage will do it for you. So if the car hasn't had it done - don't let this put you off. 

Is that unconditional? If I buy one that doesnt have a full LR service history will they still do it for free? I read this which made me worry

Mine hasn't got full LR history, I think it's missing a couple of years but LR still honoured it when I took it in to get done last year.

I did ring LR customer services who said I would have to pay to have it done so I wasn't going to bother, but when I actually took the car in for some other work, they told me to bring it back a week later to get it sorted f.o.c. 2006 Mercedes CLS

Where have you quoted this from?

I had my last one done at 110K, at no point did they ask for service histroy etc.

Its good to know they are still doing it - although after previous experience with my local dealer I think they will try to charge me first tho :0

RR.net is a US based resource. So they tend not to always have information that is relevant to the UK.

What I would also say is that if the car has got to over 75K and the diff hasn't blown then it will not blow. It only ever failed due to misalignment from the factory. Depending if Bob Smith put your front axle on or not. Generally it failed in the first 25-50K.
The diff recall itself has been the cause of a few other issues (drive line vibration, seal leaks etc), so shouldn't be undertaken lightly.
