The OBD cover most certainly has nothing to do with all this imho.
The navi though, could. Perhaps a search on battery drain issues would point you in the right direction...

I did think about the resistor but I thought if that was the problem that showed itself by the light not going off by the gear lever "P" after about 10 minutes or so ?

From what I have read, the fsr failure manifests itself in the following fashion:

When the FSR fails, two symptoms can be observed. First the most obvious symptom is that the blower motors do not respond to the manual HEVAC fan controls. The blower motors can either operate to quickly or not operate at all. Secondly, when the FSR fails, the blower motors have the potential to activate even when the key is in the Off position. When this occurs, no one may be in the car at the time. A long term symptom of this, is that the main vehicle battery may drain very over 3-6 days of sitting in a garage.

So, I forgot to mention that I also unplugged a Digital TV Tuner that didn't seem to work.

For the last 2 days I've not had a single problem with the message coming up.

I also put on a bluetooth battery monitor last night that I ordered off Amazon for £21.

Here's the results below where it was left overnight, started for a short drive to work and then left at work:




So I'm going to leave everything as it is for a bit and see how it goes.

So just to give an update, I've not had the issue appear again since unplugging the aftermarket Digital TV box in the rear.

The car has been used a few times, then left for almost a week and yesterday started right up and selected Reverse no issues.

I've also installed the old battery into the rear as a secondary, as it seemed like a waste of a battery if I just left it in my garage.

Thanks for all of the tips and ideas , hopefully it was just down to a power drain.

Can you believe it, I got into the car just after adding my last update and it's done it again. I knew I shouldn't have added the last update as I was typing it.

Ignition off, key out, start up and no issues again.

There was no issue with battery voltage as that was at 12.79, so guess I'll have to look at the inhibitor switch next.

Mines done the same in the past altho I've noticed it does it on my m62 v8 only if I get in the car quickly and turn it on quickly. Never actually caused me any issues so never worried about it

I’ll have to check how fast or not I do and maybe leave it a few more seconds when I get in it tomorrow morning to go to work. 🤔

If you do narrow it down to the switch, then give it a good clean. If this can buy you some time until September, perhaps I could send you my switch by then. It works great but I have a brand new one I'd bought and ended up not needing and it'sabout time I put it in use...
