After a few S class MB i have L 405 SDV8, c.50t miles, the level oil indicator showing once full level, nex time two mark less (the same condition -few hours after ride in my garage). I know, that guitar string is better to check the oil leve; Thank You for Your opinions.

My experience was that it was very sensitive to whether the car was on perfect level ground or at an angle, and as it measures in whole segments rather than being infinitely variable one did tend to get quite different readings. Only Range Rovers since 1988

The readings are also very oil temperature sensitive.
If you refill with cold oil, then expect the oil level readings to go up by a full segment as it reaches normal running temperature.

Thank You very much, right, I also noticed that ground level is sensitive factor,probably also the temperature. I am affraid of rising the oil level (DPF) , i never saw indicator on my dashboard (red or orange), that dpf process is running. Maybe there is no such thing.
