New to me 405 AB

Well it finally happened and not by design. I’ve been thinking about selling my faultless 322 for a while now but simply did not give it much priority. I’d owned it for 8 years and it only let me down once - adaptive suspension wire fault. I knew a 405 would happen one day but I am always a bit too fussy to find the right one.

I knew my perfect spec… blue… light interior after living with black for 8 years…. 4.4 (obviously) and a pano roof, oh and no ugly kid glass. Not much to ask eh? Problem is for some reason 405 first time buyers seem obsessed with privacy glass, whats that all about.

Any way, I have not been on the forum for a while due to work and house move etc but began to lurk again a few weeks ago. A simple post from a newbie caught my eye.. ‘Want to sell your 322 for 12 - 13k?’ A simple PM and literally the next day a really genuine chap and his mate were on my drive giving the old girl the once over (the car that is.) She is a 2010 with 111k and a rusty tailgate but I still thought £13.5 was reasonable. I was offered 12.5 there and then - we met in the middle and all of a sudden she was gone and I had 13k in the bank. Might of got more might not - I’ll never know but it all seemed a bit too good to be true and avoided me dealing with the tailgate issue etc.

OK so now the fun begins, a good year in my trade plus the 13k meant I had a decent amount to play with - off to the AutoTrader every 10 minutes it seemed and this forum - let the hunt begin.

Well I have to say loosing the will to live quickly arrived. Up to Manchester (I live in Worcestershire) to view a nail. Down to London to view another. Declined the offer to travel to Edinburgh as well as a couple of ones near Bristol which were clearly unloved plus unsuccessful negotiations with a fellow forum member looking to off load his VSE.

My exacting spec desires were playing against me then just as an impending caravan trip to Oxford next week looked in jeopardy (queue the sounds of angles singing) there she appeared on AutoTrader. A blue AB with exec seats, no kid glass and a purring 4.4, 68k miles, FMDSH deployable side steps, deployable tow bar only done 8k in the last 2 years and get this….. its 6 miles from my house!!! All clearly meant to be.

Off to view it as quickly as possible, clearly been loved to death and a superb example even if I say so myself… only faults.. the common bolster air bag light needing the over harness fix and a stone has gone directly at one of the front cameras. £31250 quickly became £30500 and she was mine. New camera and over harness already arrived - jobs for the weekend as Monty would say.

Here she is after the first battle with the snow foam….

Beautiful. Good things come to those who wait! I searched for months for the right spec/mileage/age/price.

Is that an aftermarket grille? I like it...

Thanks for the +ve comments guys. I think the grille is an SV AB grille with bright Atlas trim - looks a bit blingy but cool at the same time. Thumbs Up

The exec seats were a bit left field too but so glad I went for them.

Another benefit has come to light - because the rear seats don't fold down I have to keep the RRC for the trips to the tip so SWMBO can't keep saying ' get rid of the tractor' - yes I know, - she has no idea what true love is! 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

What a lovely colour combo. Black carpets and ivory leather is definately the sweet spot in terms of interiors. Mind you, I am biased Smile

Absolute cracker, and I love the colour combo, especially the roof. Individual style at it's best.

I could shout from the roof tops about it being so much better than the 322 in every way but I can't. I don't really notice any major difference with the performance; the 4.4 LM was quick and the 8 speed silky smooth so on that front no real change even with the weight saving. I'm sure on paper the LM is left behind but in the real world I doubt it.

Where the 405 really excels over the 322 is comfort. It wafts rather than drives. There is a slight wallowy feel whereas the LM was tighter. I enjoy the wallow but I would suspect its not to everyones taste. The LM was very comfortable but this car is in a whole different class.

I do also have to say it feels soooooo much bigger from the drivers seat.

I do wonder sometimes how long the deployable will deploy or when will the massage seats stop massaging. We all know those fears but you just have to go with your gut. I did with the LM and that was fabulous. Very Happy 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus
