Climate control buttons

As a result of a sugary drink spillage, one of my rotary climate control knobs has become harder to rotate - so I expect some of the sticky drink has gummed it up.

Can these rotary controls be removed for cleaning? As part of a separate repair to fix the cupholder from the same incident I've recently removed the whole AC panel but this time I'm interested to see if the control buttons disassemble from the panel. As they are LED based I'm concerned not to just pull them off!

Thanks 2016 SDV8 AB

Took a chance on this with my l322 that had a similar problem, gave it a liberal blast with electrical contact cleaner immediately followed with a blast of compressed air, It took 2 goes to make it perfect but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to try it on a newer car!

Thanks both for the replies on this - very helpful.

I'm prepared that I might be in for the cost of a new panel so I would see the contact cleaner / air duster route as a good idea to try first.

I've not found any evidence yet of the rotary controls being removable. 2016 SDV8 AB

i removed my climate panel from my old L322 and its about 2cm thick and everything is integrated...

the 'new' touch screen ones are £599 so you can compare that cost to a new standard panel, if you need one that is.

Careful Captain, The Op has an AB with (I assume) massage seats. These aftermarket screens do not support that - or a multitude of other functions it would seem looking at this:

according to this thread you can get to the massage seat setting via the main screen menu,

If you have massage seats the button for massage seats on the digital AC unit is a dead button. It does not turn on or off the massage function. You also cannot toggle the massage programs from the digital AC unit. It’s literally a dead button on the screen that does nothing. So this means you have to go back into the OEM NAV screen and go into the seat settings and control it there.

If sugary drinks can get behind it so can WD40, I use it all the time its safe and leaves no mess. Geoff

I would be very carful what you spray on the rubberised control buttons they will turn a sticky mess, if it gets on the rubber parts.

Thanks for the offer Horse, but since we seem to be on different sides of the pond I’ll perhaps try a closer source if the repair means I need to replace.

Much appreciate the guidance from all over the world! 2016 SDV8 AB

Dolph - that’s very kind of you. I’ll attempt the cleaning route first off, but if it doesn’t work I may well come back to you via a PM.

Cheers. 2016 SDV8 AB
