Importing oil from germany ebay item 133874221484 for L405.

Was looking on ebay at item number eBay Item No. 133874221484 Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF-L 5W-30 4x5 Liter = 20 Liter which is a good price but could not work out if it will need any duty or vat paying on it when it arrives from germany, i think you can bring in goods upto £135 including shipping but not 100% if anyone has previous experience of importing goods after Brexit and could confirm yes or no it would help. Thanks

PS. IF IT IS A BARGAIN LEAVE SOME FOR ME Laughing

United Kingdom

hello,

There should not be any duty if its made in the EU. I assume being Shell its made in holland.

There will be VAT to pay at 20%

Hope that helps.

Dave

A Trap

No VAT 9s now collected by the seller, it’s for the buyer to pay. The UK isn’t enforcing customs checks etc, this should have been in place since Jan 2021 but has been push out into next year so import duties and charges are unlikely unless the order is stopped to collect VAT then charges may apply.

Does eBay collect the vat for the UK?

I have done it the other way round so cannot confirm how the tax man is collecting the VAT or if Brexit has opened the door on this and no tax is collected at the moment… if this is the case, go on a EU buying binge before the 21% tax starts to be collected… that’s a big discount, once import checks, duties and fees become enforced it will,be a lengthy and expensive exercise, it’s the same for any 3rd county, dealt with this first hand personally and commercial in Australia and now in the EU.

"Does eBay collect the vat for the UK?"

I wouldn't be surprised if they are. They are collecting it on Australian purchases made on UK sellers - at least they did on my last purchase from a UK wrecker. Ron B. VK2OTC
