United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Bournville
4.4 tdv8 2011 wont start after long journey

Travelled down from Bristol to Devon towing my caravan, unhitched van then RR would not start, to be precise starter would not engage. Called the RAC but after 30 minutes starter engaged and all good. RAC checked battery & charging circuit & all ok, his verdict was battery was drained between the time I turned the engine off and restarting. I can't agree as I used a booster to try to start it without success. I had this before after a long journey so changed the battery with a new one that i had of a lesser power rating 770 instead of, from memory 920 just as a process of elimination. I was unable to update the system to register that the battery had been changed. My plan is to next use the RR to drive home then at my destination see if the problem persists & measure the battery voltage at that time. Is it possible to easily check the voltage to the starter motor? I have read many posts relating to this problem, it appears to be a weakness of this otherwise excellent RR.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Dave.

Sounds like a heat issue? i.e. long journey, hot engine/bay give her 30 mins to cool down & she's ok.
I'm like you in not being convinced it's the battery. Whether heat messes up the starters operation I have no idea.
My starter did the 'click click' & after the second time of this I had the starter replaced with a genuine Denso one, these girls are prone to 'outing' a starter circa 80-90k miles.
Be interested to find out the result. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Used the RR for short journeys on Thursday & all OK. Friday hooked up van & travelled over 150 miles, disconnected van at storage location but kept engine running. On arrival at home switched off & tried restarting again with same problem, this time noticed a red battery symbol on dash, checked voltage - down to 12.4 waited 15 minutes voltage raised to 12.6 & started without problem. Looks like the RAC man was correct, new more powerful battery ordered.
