Rattling exhaust

Looked everywhere for this, so apologies if I Have missed it.
My 63 plate 4.4 has a rattle/vibration when starting off at low revs. Could it be baffles, or heat shield. My old D3 did the same, could never find that. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

Funny you should mention this Rob. I had a heatshield rattle that I fixed yesterday. This rattle exposed itself at 1350rpm.

I put the car up on the ramps and asked my wife to hold her foot on the accelerator at 1350rpm. I found the vibration was coming from the aluminium heatshield (7A434 in the image below) under the gearbox sump.

It didn't look distorted at all, so I removed it and stuck some self adhesive velcro on the underside of the steel heatshield bracket (7H264 in the image below) to isolate the metal to metal interface between the heatshield and the bracket.

The result...silence restored Very Happy

Hi , I had the same rattle as well. At the exact rpm you stated.
So low and behold my heat shield for the transmission to protect it from catalytic
convertor that gets really hot had cracked this heat shield in three places .Making it rattle.
So I will have to order a new one.I hope they don t cost much.
Part Number on mine is CPLA-7J176-BC.
I hope that makes it easy for anyone else with this problem.

Hi jettec, the CPLA number is the engineering part number. The number you need to purchase the part is LR045520. Over here, they are about £50 to purchase from a LR parts retailer but can be purchased for around half that on eBay, brand new. I assume they will be similar prices down-under. Kev

Thank you for that info on the part number, I will order one today.
I did notice that the shield only had four bolts holding it to the mounting bracket.
However the mounting bracket has six holes for mounting bolts, plus my heat shield is smaller and only covers the four bolt holes. Have they fitted an incorrect heat shield for the older model?
The pictures I googled showed a heat shield with six mounting bolts.

I know mine only has four bolts holding it in place but I can't remember if it has six holes or not. The bracket definitely has six holes and six captive nuts.

The heatshield part number fitted up to VIN DA103084 is LR038765. I assume this is one with four holes. For later VINs, part number LR045520 is fitted which I assume is one with six holes. LR038765 supercedes to LR045520 so it should fit fine. Kev

Thank you very much for the reply, I have been to Land Rover today and ordered the new part.
I will see what they have ordered when it shows up, in about six weeks minimum they have told me for delivery.
Lucky it is only a heat shield.
I have bolted the old one back on and just cut out the cracked bit that was two cracks converging and that bit was going to break off anyway.
Again thanks for the info. I think maybe this part should be strengthened a little bit more, it is just to flimsy.
