Brembo Calliper Painting

I need to change my discs and pads because I keep smelling a burning clutch type smell when getting out of the car.

as my callipers were looking pretty manky, I decided to get them painted before changing over the pads and discs.

You can see they look a bit ropey.

as they are six pot alloy brembos i feel they need to have a bit of love and care. i have already flushed through all the fluid.

the pins should look like this, and the nearside came out fine.

unfortunately the offside pins were stuck fast and ended up bending when i was trying to drift out. i had to cut them in half with a dremel in the end and then drift out the remaining bits.

this is what the pins ended up looking like when they were finally extracted.

a wider angled shot

couple of coats on the calliper - the paint is exceptionally thin and runs really easily. i found a dust coat is the best way and then after about 10 coats i hit them with a thicker coat which then leaves a much shinier finish.

this is the finished product (minus the new decals - in the post)

Not sure what's happened here. The images were showing originally and now they're not.

**EDIT** The original post above worked for a few minutes and then stopped working.

Looks like the forum host software adjusts the URL of the image hosting to include a dimension for resizing the image.

It also seemed to change the picture URL from UPPERCASE to lowercase which then broke the image link. I've changed again, not sure how long the images will stay there for.

Perhaps admin need to look at the image resizer as it's adjusting the explicit URL where case sensitivity is a make-or-break issue.

Nice job!

Some q's if I may please.

How many cans of paint used for 2 calipers?

How many coast applied? - I suspect 3 but you mentioned 10, but I think that was probably the waiting time!

What preparation was involved?

Thanks in anticipation. I have a set needing to be done, but need to explore wheel nut removals first!

Chris

Used a wire brush and 320 grit paper to clean them up, plenty of brake cleaner to degrease and clean then loads of masking.

Another spray of brake cleaner and then hit it with the spray.

It’s really thin paint and a heavy coat just runs so I sprayed it with about 10 coats over the whole day with 20-40 mins between coats.

Last coat was as heavy as I dared to bring out the shine as light coats leave a satin/matt finish.

I’ve used a cam and a half to do the two front callipers. Still got the back ones to do. Christian.
