I get my speed kicks from motorbikes (and other cars), but what the RR lacks in speed I love for so many other reasons.

Rode one of those a couple of months ago. It was quite a lot better than my Rocket Roadser.

Absolutely fab bike. Loved it.

Still love my Rocket though.

I've just done my CBT because Dad is 75 in Sept and has decided to pack in riding. This Ariel Red Hunter 350 has been his since he was 15, so it can't just be sold. My Mum used to ride on the back of it and hope her parents wouldn't find out. I intend to ride it when the sun is shining, the roads are dry and I'm going nowhere in particular. Not sure whether to take on his KTM 690 too, I can see myself hedge laying with that.

It seems slightly odd that I've got to do a big bike test to ride this thunderous 17hp beast but there we go. Theory and CBT done, I'd like to get a 125 to practice on for a bit before doing the next stage.

2017 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Waitomo Grey

After 13 years in the barn under a cover, but not turning a wheel, I just had my SP1 recommissioned last month. Its been great fun getting back into riding - done over 600 miles already including a trip to Goodwood for the FoS. Had forgotten how great it feels to filter past all the queues of traffic!

Sadly it did let me down half an hour from home after about 200 miles that day. Had to wait 4 hours(!!) for the RAC by which time I'd discovered it was a blown main fuse. RAC man gave me a new fuse to fit and all fired up again and has been fine over the last 100+ miles - neither he nor I had any idea what caused it to blow. But I do now have a spare in my tool kit! In a weak moment I bought this 1990 Suzuki DR 800 on Swiss Ebay as a non runner.

It has the largest single cylinder engine of any production motorcycle. I've always wanted a big thumper!

It was a non runner due to a defective battery. I rigged a temporary replacement with some jump leads and it ran ok.

Front brake was terrible and started moaning after not much use. I think for this reason.

The frame and swing arm are pretty rusty so I've stripped it to get ready for powder coating.

Apart from the corrosion it's not in such bad condition. It's only done 30k km's. The rear tyre was 21 years old so the bike hasn't been used much in the past 20 years.

My intention is to get everything working ok and stop the corrosion, but not to tart it up and make it look brand new.

I'm not sure how long I'll keep it. Might just be a passing fad, something to get out of my system. Even with the brakes fixed they're not known for having good brakes - just a single 280mm disc and a two pot caliper and obviously no ABS. Spares are also increasingly difficult to find.

It’s completely different to riding a solo and yes, it’s pretty scary for a while, but it’s rewarding in a lot of other ways too!

It’s great to be able to go out with others that might not normally ride and getting a corner right is very satisfying 😁

Well this is the first time I've had anything powder coated and I've got to say I'm impressed. Lovely thick paint, evenly applied and with a good surface finish.

I had it done in the UK during a recent trip.

It does highlight the poor quality welding of the original bike though. Check out this weld splatter.

All the little components were going to be very expensive to get powder coated but I've discovered a workshop in Zürich where you can rent the equipment and do it yourself. I didn't want to do the frame myself and the cabinet in Zürich wasn't really big enough for it anyway.
