Dumb Battery Question

Hi, forgive the dumb battery question, this car is one I've never got to know really...

2014 AB, how many batteries and where are they ? And yes I know one's in the key fob ! LOL

Reason for asking is FBH has stopped operating and I know from my L322, battery volatge is critical. So I need to check the voltage. Also won't harm to check the dates on the ones fitted, I bet they are origonal, it's been JLR franchise maintaned after all !

there's the main battery under the spare in the boot, and 'possibly' a second aux battery in the off side rear cubby....
you might have a capacitor instead of a aux battery.. ... - .- -.

I suppose the more pertinent question should be, what voltage is required to keep the onboard systems "happy" ?

My 2014 L405. 58,000 mls has two batteries, one under spare in boot and other in rear offside panel in boot. Ensure to get someone who is competent in checking your battery condition as simply connecting the main battery to a meter will not do. My two batteries are being replaced this Friday at Landranger Deeside and they are the originals. Good luck!

12+v with the engine off rising to 14-14.5v with the engine running... A good test is to run the engine and put all the electrical drains on and see if the alternator keeps 14+v Thumbs Up

I thought these were much more voltage sensative ?

I had a 2012 L322 and replaced a perfectly good strong battery to get the FBH to work and have a radio that stayed on for more than 3 minutes when engine not running. 3 to 4 months later the same issue recoccured, Varta battery as well !! Just way too voltage sensative.

In my case having read the threads I think it's my Aux battery thats the weak one, I'll get to check Saturday

the radio will shut off after3/5 minutes when the engine is not running..this is normal for both the L322 and L405..

the aux battery is for the stop/start...it helps the electrics [ie headlights/fan/etc] keep going when the engine is off..
it also helps the re-start of the engine..

if the aux battery is flat or disconnected then the stop/start wont work.. ... - .- -.

Spot on Cam-Tech-Craig, although I would add, an alternator function ought to be checked.

Thats got me confused, a quick peak behind the panel tells me I've got a full sized battery for my Aux, but I don't have stop/start.

the early L405's had an aux battery as standard according to the WM and then later the stop/start came in using the aux battery or a capacitor.... ... - .- -.

When I bought mt L322 it had an "unbranded" battery already fitted & a year into ownership it failed overnight.
It was replaced with a like for like at F1 Autocentres & was OK except that with CV19 the car was used less & I had to charge it up every few days, also seemed to suffer from the "usuual" voltage sensitive issues.

Not suspecting the battery the car went in to a so called specialist (not the one I use thesedays) who could not find anything specific but recommended fitting a Varta "because these cheap batteries alway give issues".

The car did seem better for a while but the Varta battery failed, the F1 battery was refitted & it's been OK since. I did receive a refund on the Varta.

TBH, I'm not impressed with Varta.

Don't JLR use Varta as factory fit ?
