Flickering lights....

Hey guys,

I paid a quick visit to show a friend my L322 yesterday. It was dark so I got to put on the lights.

I think when I turned the dial to the right of steering wheel to low beam, they came on but the rear lights flickered along with the instrument cluster.

I wonder what would be causing this?

Cheers

LED bulbs will cause flicker on light up.

Do you mean just on turning on the lights?

Ok, I have been doing a little more research.

All commentary online suggests a fault LCM.

I had a quick look at the codes found during the last scan, and the LCM shows the following:

LCM-Light Control

0x52 Check brake fluid fault

0x7A Front left sidelight defective

0x7B Front right sidelight defective

0x92 Rear left foglight defective

Brake fluid is legit. I'm wondering if the other bulbs are actually gone, causing the flicker due to voltage imbalance (?) or if the faults are thrown due to faulty LCM?

What is a natural next course of action? Would it be to test out the bulbs as indicated above - if they work, then it's the LCM. If the don't work, replace them all and see what happens?

Thanks a lot
Conor

Conor, the LCM will check the Cold monitoring and the Hot monitoring of all lights... This is why the lights flash on start up as the LCM send a small voltage through every bulb to check continuity and if you have LED bulbs fitted this voltage will send the LED beserk... Thumbs Up

Interesting, thanks Craig.

Is that a temporary thing on startup or something that needs addressing?

It doesn't feel normal to me.

It should only do it on startup for a second or two, and only if LED bulbs are fitted. You can stop it by turning off cold monitoring with a diagnostic tool, but again, only if LED bulbs have been fitted.

If they haven’t, you have an issue that needs to be sorted.

Ahh ok..

Now, I do recall briefly looking at the flickering bulb and it was a round "bulby" lol looking thing.. not sure if it was LED, but looked like a regular bulb.

Will confirm. Thanks.

My 2012 Westminster 4.4 TDV8 has recently had a headlight flicker.. My lights are set to Auto, so when dark, they come on automatically, however, just over the past few evenings, the headlights will momentarraly flick off then back on again, they are off for less than a second, but on the dark small roads around here, it’s quite alarming when it happens...

What am I looking for in terms of rectification..?

Mark.
