Humming noise when going uphill

Hello - long term lurker here... This place really is an amazing resource! I have had my 05 4.2 Supercharged for a while now and it has been trouble free so far...apart from on the last few trips I have noticed a strange humming noise coming from the drivers side wheel (UK - i.e. the front rigjt side of the car) which can only be felt when going sub 20mph (it seems very closely linked to road speed) when the car is going uphill...any ideas? Initially I thought the torque converter - but the revs aren't fluctuating - the gear shifts are smooth and the sound is very concentrated to the front right hand side of the car...

Mine 4.4 ajv8 does this as well. I heard that sound 2 years ago, but I never worried too much as it doesn't seem to get any louder by the time that went. I believe it is torque converter related (mine currently on 260 000km) RR HSE 4.4 2006 LPG

Is yours only on one side of the vehicle? Mine only has 75k on the clock and doesn't seem to have any other TC symptoms...but it could still be I suppose

The brakes were changed by the previous owner - how do I check this?

Just to square this one off - it was a corroded gear shifter linkage of all things....Sprayed down with wd40 and then moved all of the way forwards and back - with the whole process repeated a few times. I hope this helps someone else in the future as it was driving me mad!
