Turbo issue

Hi, can anyone help. Have an issue with my 2012 Range Rover 4.4tdv8. At over 2000rpm car is going into restricted mode.
Suspect turbo issue on right side.
Question is it likely to be a hose as I can hear air, no oil from rear.

Second issue is main blower stopped working, where can relay and resistor be located?

Thanks for any help

I’d check the rubber hoses on the donut under the engine cover for signs of splitting or if the plastic has cracked.

The turbo actuator can be sticky, but I think that was solved by LR prior to your model year.

Not heard of that many turbo issues on the 4.4, so def worth checking pipework first.

Sorry, FSR for blower is sort of at the back of the heater control panel. You can get to it by popping off the side panel and reaching in. Think there might be a guide in the Wiki….. top right….

So checked maf sensor today, completely clogged. Cleaned and refitted
Had a good look at the donut hoses, they appear ok but back left when viewed from front looked a bit oily.
Before I take plunge and pull all out, can anyone describe the smoke test so I can check.
All help appreciated.

As you know, the 4.4 tdv8 has sequential turbo's & the second turbo kicks in around 2400rpm.......just when you said you get RP message. I would check the second turbo actuator arm to make sure that's not stuck, this happened to mine, took the actuator off, cleaned her all up & she's fine.
But, you mention an air leak.....so I would take all four donut hoses off & check those very carefully as well.
Hope it all goes well. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Out of interest Fox889 How did you remove the actuator? I understand The passenger-side one is incredibly difficult to access, any guidance you can provide would be very interesting. Have to confess, the Indy did all this for me! Embarassed
But, from what I've read & what I've listened to from said Indy, you can see/access the actuator arm from beneath the car, think you can 'test' it by pushing/pulling to see if it is stuck. Mine played up when I gave her some "spirited driving" shortly after buying her, red Restricted Performance came up, but if you stopped, locked the car & came back 2 mins later, she drove perfectly. Because these girls rev so casually & 99% of normal driving doesn't use the second turbo, they get clogged up. My Indy took the actuator off [didn't charge me much so it's not a big job] & said it was full of oil, cleaned it all up & it's been fine ever since. Consensus of opinion is, that once warm & probably once a week, take the old girl up to 3000rpm which makes sure the second turbo kicks in & keeps everything ticketey boo!
Still doesn't explain the air you can hear though?

Hope this helps. 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

Thanks, makes sense. I’m going to do the actuator fix (poke and lube 😉), but also curious to know what the removal entails. Current: Range Rover L322 4.4tdv8, Porsche 911 (996) Carrera 2, BMW 535d Touring, Skoda Fabia, BMW S1000XR

What’s the actuator thing that’s at the front near the bottom of the radiator? That’s the part Land Rover updated at some point. Someone did a post about it somewhere… can’t find it….

I think that part is the charge air inlet valve. There was a mod to change the lnkage connector design.

OP it's worth checking this to see if it operates. May need a little movement by hand and a clean and lube.

The original design had a nut on the connector. Cheers

Look to see if you have the updated hoses on top inlet before you go and start taking them all off…..

The new ones are smooth rubber hoses where as the older design were slightly moulded. If they are new then unlikely to be leaking, if they ar the older ones then for how much it costs I would swap them out for the updated ones in any case..

The actuator arm can be seen by looking down the front of the engine towards the bottom of the radiator. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Have the old ones on, will smoke test next week end, bought new hoses just in case.
Messed around today and had here on a good run, went to restricted when at top end, better than before, but still no quite there

I’d fit the new hoses anyway, as you have bought them. Can’t do any harm and will sort any future issues in this area.

So dived in and back left rubber hose split. All changed and okay now.
Next job the far, all stripped but struggling to find it. Does the 2012 model have it in the same location as earlier models?
