I think I'll just get one of those gadgets that Stan has as I have had my hand forced by my LR Sat Nav packing up altogether, doesn't matter if it was good or bad. I now use Waze on my phone but could just do with a bigger screen, I could use my iPad but its WiFi only so no GPS. Although I'm not in a rush so happy to wait for Craig's thought's on the system he has on trial from Unique Audio Developments (which uses the in built screen), I don't really want the inside of my LR to look like a Tesla with additional screens Very Happy

I've been looking at screen mirroring solution, as all I want is a bigger screen (I just listen to Radio 2 all the time on DAB), but they all say devices need to be on the same WiFi network so I'm guessing they won't work.

Of course I could just get my SatNav fixed as I found it to be OK for my needs but I do like Waze.

If anyone has discovered a solution out there that uses the GPS in the phone and links to the iPad I'll be happy to hear of it. Geoff

In the recent past I've been critical of Unique Audio Developments as their system as fitted to my sons car (Audi RS4) didn't work perfectly.

They have said return the kit to them and they will give him a refund. So I think they have indeed behaved fine on the aftersales front and I need not have worried. However the problem has been exacerbated by the "specialist" who sourced the unit and fitted it. He understandably does not want to give the fitting cost back but has agreed to take the system out and return the car to its original spec without further charge.

Happy to correct my original statement about UAD after-sales, obviously the argument continues with the "specialist", but I see both sides of this argument. He did spend time fitting it and did a good job, also will take it out FOC so maybe he has a point but its still £170 but at least not £700. I guess as its sold as a "fit it yourself" sort of kit this isn't actually simple, maybe a compromise can be reached. Geoff

No cable Craig, via Bluetooth, the module is in the glovebox.

Yes the CarPlay dongle is in the glovebox BUT, that doesn’t answer my question sir, when you listen to music, is that done via Bluetooth or Auxiliary dock? What does it say on the dash in front of you please?

As I understand it the CarPlay unit has a bluetooth connection that it uses to connect to the phone. If so the phone can only connect by Bluetooth to one thing, the CarPlay unit, then it must connect audio to the car via the aux socket, which is better than bluetooth anyway.

As always I am happy to be corrected, I'm very used to it Rolling with laughter Geoff

If it is the same as my Jag and the previous RR and utilises the same system that JLR use, then CarPlay connects via the USB in the cubby box, not bluetooth SDV8 AB MY 2019

The issue is this, you connect via Aux lead and your audio quality is lesser than running Bluetooth... The second issue will be the telephone, which connects via Bluetooth to the carplay system. That means your phone calls won't be answered in the usual way when driving! And finally, connecting via Aux won't allow you to use the FF RW buttons on your steering wheel...

Now, if you change your Bluetooth from CarPlay to Range Rover this fixes all the problems above...

Now I just need an expert to tell me how an iPhone's Bluetooth connection can be changed to automatically attach to the Range Rover over and above the CarPlay connection? Does anyone know, please?

CarPlay will always override Bluetooth if enabled. But you should not be connecting your phone to both CarPlay and Bluetooth at the same time. It will cause issues. To disable CarPlay for a specific car, go to the iPhone's Settings/General/CarPlay menu and in the My Cars list choose the respective vehicle and then press Forget This Car. This is of course valid for wireless CarPlay, for normal CarPlay just don't connect the cable to the iPhone... 2019 Vogue P400e

From my experience, quality loss is negligeable. Also, the convenience of playback control over Bluetooth is not mentioned... 2019 Vogue P400e

Following for updates. I want CarPlay, but my wife uses the massage seats constantly. The larger screen isn’t a big deal to me. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

After driving on holiday in a CarPlay enabled car, I thought enough! I had the Unique Auto unit fitted and now wonder why I waited so long!

Not trusting myself, I used the very excellent Darren Justice at Bespoke Installs - he comes to you, London and the South East.

Yes, the audio is slightly off but perfectly acceptable and, in any event, you can still use all the normal AV inputs.
