GPS Tracker Sim Cards

I've got a tracker here ready to be fitted to my L322.

Can anyone recommend a sim-card which can be bought outright, has data and text capability but which is valid for a year, i.e. doesnt have to be topped up each month?

Cheers

Thanks Stan.

I'd seen those but it's not clear if they have the ability to receive / send the texts needed for the initial setup. Answered questions seem to say that no, it cant receive / send texts but at least one answer says that yes it can. 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

pretty sure you activate in a phone and then transfer sim to the tracker...hopefully someone who has done this will confirm. ... - .- -.

Hi Stan

I think the sims can usually be activated online too. But when then putting the sim in the tracker it’s necessary to send it a couple of texts with settings for the tracker.

Might call at a Three shop and see if they have a sim which has 24months data but which can also handle texts.

Another plan might be setting it up with a 1 month conventional sim, then swap to the data one.

Cheers

Why not buy a 1Gb 3 data sim from Amazon for £6.15 and try it. The sim lasts 30 days, if ok then buy a 2 year one.

I might have done prior to calling at a Three store today. They confirmed that their data sims will not be suitable / have no text functionality. 2010 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

I used a GiffGaff sim in the previous tracker in my Westie. Mainly because it still uses a 2G connection as you don't need any data, just a text facility.
Can't remember now if it was totally free or if I paid for it originally (would have been cheap as I'm a tight git!) but I know I haven't paid anything more for the past few years and all i have to do to keep my number "alive" is send a text to it every few months. GiffGaff send me a reminder too. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

I don't know where you got your tracker from, but I bought mine from global trackers and comes with a sim card already installed. Only costs £4.95 a month. I've had mine 4 years, was installed on my Saab but now it's on the fatty. Can't fault the service and works perfect.

Just check if the tracker is 2g or 3g. You then need sim card to suit.

Have used/installed Global Tracker units in the past. They work well however last time I used them they didn't have an app. Just a website which isn't easily navigated on an Iphone.

I've used GiffGaff SIM's on GSM gate openers and remote locations where I have fitted surveillance equipment with great success.

Used to use Voda before but they have imposed some punitive terms which don't work well for M2M applications.

Otherwise search for Machine to Machine (M2M) SIM. Christian.

JNC, they do now have an app, I use it on my android. It's a bit of a faff to set it up but does work great.
