Trip to France

Just completed a mammoth drive down to France to visit my daughter! Stuck in Dover during the storm for 14hrs but hay, what a car to be stuck in! We were supposed to travel on the 10.30 ferry and finally loaded at around midnight!

We chose to drive for a while when we disembarked so, filled up with fuel in Calais and hit the road. Managed no knock 300miles off the journey before I chose to tap out at around 4.30am! We got a couple of hours of sleep in the “best seats” in the back… Wifey woke me at 7.30 and we went into the services for breakfast and umpteen coffee’s. We set off with wifey at the helm while I slept… A couple of hours later and she was done! Woke me from my comatose’d state! Fed me another couple of French coffees and I was back at the controls for the last couple of hours… We pulled in to their Château at around 1pm, so around 16hrs late!

But what a car!!! Looked after us brilliantly, comfortable, quiet and just… Brilliant at everything!

Good to see you are saving for your pension and are slumming it…. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

Ah Craig you must have a cast iron gut to suffer French coffee lol. It's the most horrendous coffee in Europe me thinks. I shall be passing through Beaune tomorrow afternoon on way back from Italy. I may see you around, I'll even bring you some proper Italian coffee if you like Laughing

Lovely part of France, the jet/motorbike/car museum at Chateaux Savigny les Beaune is well worth a visit. ---------------------------------------

14 hours, ouch! Our ferry was only delayed by one hour Saturday, noon. We must have been lucky
I felt the pain for all the lorries waiting in line on the motorway for hours, if not days - while we were loading aboard the ferry and minutes later watching the Olympics with a cuppa in a comfy couch.
Then again at least you have fannnnntastic seats to take a nap in the back. Thumbs Up l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Daughter works there as a private chef… The owners are not due back for another 8 weeks or so and are happy for her to have her parents to stay Very Happy (and at no cost except food shopping)
So, daughter is currently working a ski season away up in the Alps so, we are here for a few days with her fiancé, then up to the ski resort while she has 3 days off, then back here again for a couple of days before heading home!

Italian coffee Hmmm now your talking!

I believe we are vine walking tomorrow? As there are literally hundreds of acres of wine 🍷 land around us! Kat & Matt help with the picking certain times of the year and like to take visitors there when they can… 👍

I binned the idea of a ferry back from Calais and took the Eurotunnel…the updates from P&O on Twitter weren’t encouraging. Not a fan of the tunnel though, very dull!

When we were waiting for the Ferry, The tunnel was closed due to power cables coming down… So, was the perfect storm no?
