United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Silicon Silver

I'm in the process of changing my 100amp lead-acid to 110amp lithium, also changing my 100watt solar to a 330watt solar, 1500watt inverter, mppt controller,
Cost £1700 at least I won't have to worry about a 10amp supply anymore to run stuff.

Wow. My system cost £400 incl victron mppt charge controller and fittings. Lithium battery, very nice. I have a130ah gel Matt battery but the VM power unit / charger is battery hungry if you leave the van plugged in. The same unit is fitted to loads of caravans and they all suffer or so I’m told. Ive fitted a second battery and will link them for an increased ah rating but may go for split charging to ensure mover function when needed. I’ll test it to see which option works better for me. Sites I’ve visited recently have coin operated electric connections and can be pretty costly but I suppose it’s relatively in step with increasing power costs.

I’ve been towing caravan’s for more years than I care to remember and my current SDV8 is by far the best on fuel whilst giving unbelievable grunt pulling a 2 ton van, but there’s a lot of things effect your consumption such as terrain IE if its hilly you’ll use more when windy and the coast goes up. I’ve had as high as 26 MPG on a flat calm day and as low as 17 on a hilly windy drive so I would put the overall average at around 22MPG while towing, not bad when you consider your pulling over 4.5 tons all up. Thumbs Up

I agree with Andy. 19mpg with 2 ton caravan. My previous caravan weighed 1.5 ton and the car did 26mpg!! I didn't expect such a big drop!!

One of the issues with the EV option is that I am yet to see a charging point that would allow you to charge without having to uncouple a trailer/caravan. This would then have to be secured to prevent it being taken whilst you await your fast/slow charge. On a 200 plus mile tow you are probably looking at two refills so more Afro and time consumed.

I saw the previous comment about the 85% rule being less important with an EV ….why? This is basically to stop the caravan/ towed trailer pushing the car when going downhill etc. RR’s can tow 3.5 tonnes because if there weight abs stability from four wheel drive. If you’ve ever seen the result of a towed unit snaking out if control it is alarming. Even RR’s can get out of shape in inexperienced hands when towing at higher weights especially if trailer is badly loaded. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

my maths is not good but from what I worked out that's 26.6 mpg?

You're right..... Your maths aren't great!!!

It's actually 24.25 mpg. Whistle

Still not bad for lugging a big tin tent though. Wink

I would love to get 24mpg when not towing Laughing Laughing
