For 2006-2010 vehicles, there's an ebay one where they will cut your key by photo and send you a rather nice Bentley style flip key (I had some. They're very nice). This may also work on the BMW key pictured, given uts the same style and not original.

This replaces an existing working or worn out key and has new buttons and PCB inside.

If you need additional keys and live in the South, I highly recommend Mario Keys. He can also copy your 1 existing key to create a 2nd - I believe he can also do this for pre 2006 cars, preventing the need to take out the dash and key module.

For 2011 cars, you can also upgrade the key to the later type:

I'm in a similar, one key position. I'm not immediately seeing how the iid shuffle above provides a second, additional, key, or am I missing something?

The IID is VIN locked for most advanced features. So, to program a key for a vehicle, that vehicle has to be added to the IID tool (or an IID Tool Pro used). Once added, the IID can program a new key to the vehicle. Key quality varies a lot - it's a bit hit and miss if any old key from ebay will work.

Thanks for that. But I'm still unclear as surely another chip, duplicating he existing, is required in order to have two working keys?

The new key you purchase has a blank chip which can be programmed by the IID tool to match the car. I'm not sure of the exact procedure as I had two working keys... 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

Hi all

Have just bought a new 2007 flip key from Duckworths as my new 4.2 SC came with 1 ropey old key with a dead battery (soldered in on these keys)

I have just phoned main dealer - Lookers in Colchester - to arrange programming (Rob at Duckworths suggested this should be about £50) and they can't book in until 23rd May and want car for the day and £186 for the pleasure (sounds like an hour of labour at £155 + VAT).

Is this just a rip off and should I try other main dealers?
Can an Indie do this?
Do I treat this as a £186 discount on an IID tool which I was going to get anyway, but not until I had to do something that needed it?

Best price I can find at the moment is £438 inc VAT and delivery from Bell Auto Services - does anyone know if its cheaper anywhere else?

Thanks

I would wait until a used one comes up on here or Disco3.com

They are usually 340 ish plus a 25 transfer fee.

When I bought my IID, Bell Auto Services were the least expensive.

When I looked at ebay 2nd hand ones, the price of the item plus the transfer cost for the VIN were almost as much as buying a new one.

A good auto locksmith can also programme the key - Mario charged me £60 so expect £60-£100 for an auto locksmith to come to you and do it. It took about 30 mins for a key blade cut, programme and learning the remote to the central locking. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Thanks both

My key is already cut so it is purely the programming that needs doing
