England 2013 Range Rover Vogue SE SDV8 Luxor
Steering vibration.

I have a slight steering vibration on braking. It went in for annual service today to my long trusted Indy. He said, probably discs, but will check.
Thing is this….. I bought the car a year ago, the dealer serviced it in with the price. His mechanics fitted four new discs, which could be seen easily, and I saw the receipt.
I never brake heavily, my brake pads last ages. So assuming there are no other issues, how could the discs have warped so quickly. I only did about 5k miles last year.

Any thoughts please. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

They fitted TRW at £60 plus vat each. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

If you're only doing low mileage / short, low energy journeys then it may be a build up of corrosion on the discs, particularly on the inner face due to there being not enough brake use to scrub the discs clean & flat again before it is parked up awaiting the next lot of winter weather to corrode the discs even more. You'll find that there are patched where the pads have been that are not so bad, its transitioning between those parts of the discs and the more corroded bits that causes the steering wheel shimmy.
The corrosion may also be worse on one side of the car than the other, this will be the side facing the prevailing wind / weather....

Phoenix, that makes good sense. My car is always garaged, and when I wash it, I always run it up and down the road to warm up the brakes. I can see your point, so it may improve if/when I undertake longer journeys. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

One thing you can try is find a quiet road on a hill, drive down it at 12-15mph, apply HDC and then knock the transmission into neutral, you'll hear lots of ABS type noises whist the HDC does it's stuff, if it seems to be only lightly applying, use the cruise control + and - buttons to adjust the target speed for effect. Dependent on how long the hill is and how much surface corrosion there is, you may have to do this more than once.

Or find a quiet fast road and apply the EPB switch from 70mph, that'll clean 'em up nicely in about 7 seconds.... (over 3mph, it works as a 'dead man's switch' and applies full high pressure ABS)

Just to end with. My Indy did a full service today. He took all the discs off and cleaned them. Some had a rusty deposit. He thought this was caused by the vehicle being parked up too long. As Phoenix said. So all cleaned, no more vibration. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.
