USB on a 2013 model

I was under the impression I could transfer some of my iTune music files on to a USB stick, pop it in the USB on my 2013 model and play them through the sound system. I can't for some reason. What am I doing wrong or was I misled ? It's a meridian system with an aux imput as well ( wich works with an old iPod classic.)

The system is a bit finicky in what it will play.

Here are my notes to get music files into a compatible format...

Use foobar2000 with LAME video converter codec to re-enconde MP3s
Download & install foobar2000: https://www.foobar2000.org/download
Download & install the encoder pack: https://www.foobar2000.org/encoderpack (when installing, just install the LAME encoder)
File > Add Folder
Select all files
Right Click > Convert
Output Format = MP3 (Lame) 320kbps Kev

My iTunes library seems to be made up of all those type of files. Some music stored as mp3, some aac. it's a minefiled for us non audiophiles !

Even if you have the files in the same format, they still won't play unless they have been encoded in a specific way. It's a very fussy system. Kev

AAC is an Apple format.

I think LR's reluctance to use formats like AAC is due to the licensing of that format.

I have my entire music library in a 256Gb USB stick, formatted to Fat32. All music files are in MP3 format in folders by artist then album.

Alternatively, you can use Bluetooth from your phone with playlists.

Why bluetooth a classic iPod ? If you have one of those just plug it in.

I gave up with mine a while ago & now just use Apple music on my iPhone & have that connected via bluetooth - works very well.

My phone doesn't have enough space for my collection which now stands at 27 hours worth on my iPod ( I have one of the 160gb ones ! )

That's why I gave up with the iPod.

My phone stores less, but caches what I've been listening to & downloads anything new I want when I want it. I can also use Siri to listen to whatever I want.
