While having my alternator replaced due to a significant leak from the RH timing chain cover, the mechanic found the camshaft position sensor seals and the variable timing solenoid actuator seals leaking as well.

I was able to find the variable timing solenoid actuator seals separately by contacting another independent shop. They provided part number LR011954 Variable Timing Solenoid Seal. https://landrover.lakeridgeparts.com/p/53258809/LR011954.htm
These are cheap and cost effective at around $6 instead of replacing the entire unit at $200-400.. They are ‘6643’ in the diagram.

Your mechanic should have a stock of O rings, one should fit that...  Pete

That’s what I was thinking, but since it is a warranty job they want to make sure it doesn’t come back I think. If I was doing it, I would go searching for an o-ring myself. They don’t have that kind of time as replacing parts is faster and easier. They are a great shop, but they don’t want do-overs. Dan. 🇨🇦 2013 L405 5.0 SCV8

So I pulled a sensor out, the RH upper is the easiest and took it to my local auto parts store to see if I could match the o-ring. They didn’t have a new sensor in stock to compare too.

A new OEM sensor from JLR $240 CAD. New generic o-ring $0.23. I replaced all four. That’s a $1,074.22 savings before labour. Even the cheapest aftermarket sensor was $23.89 CAD. That’s $114.40 savings before labour.

The LH side is a bit harder to replace, but not impossible. More grunting.
